Hi I’m new here just completed week 1 run 1 and amazed at how exhausted I am. Not looking forward to a 12ht shift tomorrow. Is it normal to barely be able to run for a minute. The last 2 runs I wanted to shake the narrator senseless. But... I persevered and completed it.
Hi: Hi I’m new here just completed week 1 run... - Couch to 5K
Hi
i found the first two weeks the hardest and 3/4 the way through each run i stumbled along but i stuck with it and followed the plan to the letter.also ached the next day.
around about w4/w5 it vastly improved. it is a big thing for the body to get used to and cant be rushed..
drinking lots the day b4 the run helps.
Hi Shoot. Welcome to C25K!
Your comment about the last two run sections made me laugh 😆 and smile 😊. It took me back to when I felt exactly the same way a few weeks ago. Like you I pushed through and completed it. A couple of days later I ran the second run and couldn’t believe the difference.
I’m now in the middle of Wk4 and still amazed at how the C25K program has cast its weird magic on me and I continue to progress. Put your trust in the plan, it works.
Take it slow and then slow down further. Don’t worry if your fast paced walk is similar, or faster even, than your jog. Keep hydrated, it will help with that tired/heavy leg feeling and do do do stretch after you finish.
Keep posting on the forum. There are so many wonderful people on here to give advice and encouragement.
Happy running 😊
Thank you for your support. I’m determined to set the example for my children and patients x
I did my first run too today after a long break. I took it easy but still it was hard. I'm happy to started running again. Hope it will get easier in time and will start enjoy it more.
I think we all felt like that at the beginning 😁 it’s surprising how quickly you are able to manage each run, just run slowly it’s not a race you should be able to hold a conversation whilst running , make sure you drink plenty of water and have rest days more than one if you need it . I’m on week 8 and 59 years old so if I can do it so can you 😁 trust in the plan and use this forum for lots of encouragement and advice , good luck .
I did my wk 1 run 3 today and first one it was hectic. It’s still a struggle but I’m not as exhausted. There’s so much great advice that’s already been given. But I found that drinking loads of water on your rest day and taking a short walk really helped. Also stretching after my run made a huge difference. Lastly slow down really slow. Happy running - keep us posted.
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on the recommended easy conversational pace........slow down.
Enjoy your journey
Welcome... great job on run 1. I can’t comment on normal, don’t think I’ve ever been that 😂 but I did feel like I was going to die on that first run! This plan steps up week by week, but by far the biggest step up on the plan is 0 to 8x1 and lots of brisk walking that you did today... you can do that run, you can do this plan. Enjoy your journey.
Hiya, I finished my w1r2 today and I totally understand how you are feeling, I had exactly the same thing for my first one on Thursday. Don’t worry about normal, everyone is different. Today I didn’t struggle as much ( although I was still very much out of breath by the end) the whole point of the app is to increase your exercise and push you so it’s gonna be difficult
I finished w3r2 yesterday and for the first time did it outside and not in the gym on the treadmill. I have to say i found it easier i think because i probably went slower, but first week was pretty exhausting as of course it ahould be as your body is just not used to it. Keep going.
Hi yes it’s all normal how you’re feeling. I certainly felt out of my comfort zone in the beginning but it’s your body tackling something new and you will improve as you get further in the program.
Good luck 🍀
