How important is foot wear.

I’ve had my trainers for a few years and I’m sure there are better makes and models out there.

But is it important.

I’ve read by get a Gait test this could massive improve my running.

Has anyone else do this?

Shoes are the most important piece of running gear... let’s face it I could run in combat pants and any shirt (though cotton wouldn’t be good). Good shoes protect the feet and compensate for some gait issues, making the run more comfortable and thus enjoyable.

If you had the best running shoes ever created, they’d certainly be shot after a year of running... so a few years old pair, even if not run in, will have lost all of the qualities we want for a runner. Retired running shoes can be good for other use though.

Gait analysis is the best way to go for all new runners, and the investment will pay dividends.

Good shoes won't make you a good runner, but they are likely to hugely reduce your risk of injury.........which means you can continue to run, rather than be sidelined on the injury couch for days , weeks or months.

As stressed in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... most new runner's aches and pains are caused primarily by the impact of running and one of the best ways to minimise that is to have the most appropriate support and cushioning between your feet and the ground which you are going to strike something like 1500 times per mile as you run.

The best way to find out what is appropriate for your feet is to have a gait analysis conducted at a specialist running shop.
