Week 4 run 1 + new trainers = aching feet. 😔

I went yesterday and had a gait analysis done, listened to the advice and found trainers I felt comfortable in. Put them on today for my 1st run of week 4, and found that while they were not uncomfortable I had achy feet. Is that normal with new trainers? I know I’d be unlikely to wear new regular shoes for long on the first time so I’m just hoping it’s my feet getting used to a new style of shoe and different support level..... but I’m worried I’ve spent a small fortune on the wrong shoes! Any advice/tips very welcome! Thanks

New trainers often need running in a bit and they do feel weird the first time you go out in them. How about you wear them a bit more before your next run? Get your feet used to them?

Yes I’ll try wearing them as much as I can before I next run, thanks! 🤞

Not sure of the answer to this but from my own experience ... my first pair of running shoes I picked up and did not do a gait analysis first. Then after completing C25K plus a few months I picked up the courage to go to a running store and do the gait thing.

I was "prescribed" with more supportive shoes and all was fine in the store but heading out for my run my feet started to ache after the first couple of K. The store assured me that this can be normal but if there continued to be problems I could return them.

I put this down to starting out with the wrong shoes and my feet needing to make a heavy adjustment. My shoes took a good few months for me to get comfortable. I do think that maybe the fit was wrong and that I should have had something in between the heavier support but in the end my feet are ok and I am happily running in them.

Thanks Richard, the trainers I was wearing were years old so it’s a big change from what I’ve been used to- I’ll keep trying, and I guess if it doesn’t get better I can go back and ask at the shop again.

Hi, it may resolve itself as you wear them in, if not return them and get revised advice.

I had my gait analysis done at the end of week 2. The support corrected my pronation but of course meant some muscles were being used differently. Agonising pain in my knees ensued but I persevered, repeating the same run (wk3) for 2 extra weeks and introduced more post run stretches until the pain reduced. I’m now embarking on w6r1, loving and looking forward to each comfortable run. Good luck.

Thanks, did wk4run2 today and my feet felt much less achy. Hopefully a few more runs and it will be fine!
