New Trainers

I am running Wk for 28 minutes which is going reasonably well. As most of my runs have been done on uneven tracks and grass I want to get some new trainers. Should I have a gait analysis done or will that just encourage an over zealous salesperson to sell me an expensive pair of shoes. I have been researching trail shoes is that correct

There’s arguments surrounding proper running shoes such as the view that people who don’t really run that far, that often shouldn’t spend a lot of money on shoes (could be a waste), however, running shoes are more comfortable and supportive and do make the run easier. I had a nasty skiing accident that royally buggered my knee so I was advised to get proper running shoes just for every day use, because my gait had altered. I paid about £100 for the shoes (ASICS) and they were/are the most comfortable running shoes ever! If you are considering running on multiple surfaces including grass, nature trails and the road it could be a sensible choice for you. Post recovery from my accident I have always invested in a decent pair; they definitely make a difference to everyday activity let alone running. I do a lot of walking etc. So it’s not necessary but it can help but definitely don’t spend stupid money if you don’t want to or you’re not sure. Trail shoes would be good for ‘nature’ runs. Good luck 😃🏃🏻‍♀️

If you are planning to stick to the running then get new shoes if you need too. Trail shoes sound about right if you are running grass etc.

Get an analysis done, it will help you to avoid buying the wrong shoes.

I got my shoes in Start Fitness last year, they just looked at my bare feet and recommended a pair of Asics, in a choice of 3 colours, so I bought the cheapest one. All the shoes were the same but the latest 'in' colour was about £20 more. I love my blue ones :)

I wish I had had my gait analysis and got the correct shoes earlier.

What I spent on 3 sports physio sessions could have got me the correct trainers. Factor in the cost of the Asics I had bought (nothing wrong with them, but not right for me, they ended up in a charity shop). Easily £200+.

Once you know which shoes are right for you, you can pick up some online bargains. sportsshoes.com saved me £45.00 compared to the same pair in a running shop.

I’ve just got new trainers with a gait analysis .. it was interesting as it picked up that I run with an over pronation on both feet so had shoes recommended which help correct that to prevent any injury later on. Worth doing 😊
