Week 4 Run 1 - New trainers needed

Done it! Who would have thought I could run for 5 minutes at a time and for 16 out of 30 minutes? It was cold and drizzly too - a few weeks ago I wouldn't have even gone out. My legs feel a little tired now (3 hours later) but the encouragement of this community really helps.

Unfortunately, my old trainers are starting to give up on me - any advice on how to find a good budget pair of running shoes or where to get them from?

Hi Andy well done. I'm doing same run tomorrow wk 4 r1 hope I get through it as well . Regarding trainers , I went to sweatshop be and had gait analys done coz since I started my knees have become a bit dodgy , but they where deffo not a budget at £103 lol I'm that type though after having them check my gait I went n bought the bloody things , instead of going t soccer sport or something , that's where u will get a reasonable pair I reckon .

I think it's worth getting your gait analysed and then paying up. If it's a decent running shop then they'll probably work their way up from the cheapest that is suitable for you and let you take them back if there's a problem. To be honest, unless you're paying gym membership to use a treadmill, running is a pretty cheap sport, and I'd rather pay up and support those shops that are trying to help us runners. Of course now I know what works for me, I'll probably go online and find somewhere that sells them cheaper when my current shoes need replacing (especially with the 50% mark up on such imported goods over here), but my conscience tells me it's no bad thing to support local independent businesses every now and then.

If it still seems like a lot of money, try working out how many tickets to see a premiership team you'd be able to get for the same amount or how many tanks of petrol or ... fill in the blank ... the point being that I think it's pretty good value really.

Well yes looking at it like that , they do a 28 day exchange if they are not suitable , they seem fine really comfy & my knees not as bad .

Thanks for the tips, I'll give gait analysis a try and see what I can afford. I agree it's not much in the long run or compared to other sports.

Good luck with your running

Just to say I didn't mean to sound judgemental, and I do appreciate that none of us want to spend more than we need to. But I do think it's good to get the amount spent on a pair of running shoes in perspective, and I do think it's good to support local businesses.

I highly recomend getting your gait analysed before getting new trainers! having the right shoes does wonders and could help with those knee problems too:)
