I have a nice quiet road near me, uphill first leg, so starting off is a little bit of work. Coming back is brilliant because of course it's on a slight decline which is why i up the gas a little. Also as the return run, I will try and run two or 3 minutes extra on the last one.
I do know however that on the first leg going out, it does give your calf muscles a good workout.

Off road or at the very most through a short residential area for most of my runs or long walks, the site of seeing some runners on main A roads or bus routes puts me off running, if nothing else they are breathing in all those fumes. 🤔😩
Quite luck to have some quiet residential streets around me and also two decent sized parks to do a circuit! I change up my route for each run to keep me engaged and hopefully I will run for a longer distance as the weeks progress!
That's a real shame, terrible way for them to treat you. I still don't think it would stop me though, it gives you the upper hand as most of them wouldn't be able to do what you can do now anyway, but hey it doesn't matter. You enjoy your running wherever you want. Well done..
That's such an awful thing to hear. I would be tempted to buy a t-shirt with a concise but rude slogan on it. That would give them something to talk about!
Sorry I really can't bear mean spirited people. There is absolutely no need for it. So I'm send you a hug x
Happy running and I hope you get to your San Francisco route 😊
We have a disused railway line and a fabulous community park here, plus woodland walks less than 5 miles away, so loads of possibilities. I use the park most - it’s handiest.
Same. By me there is a fantastic network of cycle tracks which I can access from my back gate without even going onto a road. There are lots of loops so no turning round and heading back the same way. There is also an underpass on the main road that goes out to a country park with a lake. From mine I can run a 5k loop around the lake and back and only have to cross two small roads, the rest is all paths. Only the lake section is not lit, so the rest is available in those dark winter evenings as well as day time runs.
I ran weeks 1 to 6 on the football pitches at the back of my house in the dark in dark coloured clothes! From week 7, I found a riverside path that goes on for miles and miles and miles so will never run out of road along there. And parkrun, of course, on a Saturday.
First night tonight week 6 Run 3 decided to go down a local park very enjoyable makes a big change from roadways met a couple of similar runners definitely will do it again.
I'm not bothered by my speed and they're not bothered by the heirs. Common ground
I’m lucky to live in the coast so I run along the promenade and a local park which runs along the coast. The reason being that when I started C25k I was frightened of falling over as my balance isn’t good and I have a history of tripping over. So this route doesn’t have any kerbs and it’s mostly tarmac, no raised slabs. But now I go because it’s amazing to see the sea, the sky, bird life and it’s well populated by other runners, walkers, cyclists etc so I’m not alone. 🏃🏻♀️😊
Trails where ever possible (Defo if running at the weekend- lucky to be near south downs) otherwise through the housing estate, round the park and back. Like you my route starts uphill. Love the homeward stretch 😁
West; Pulborough, so I have the choice of Chantry Point or Whiteways to start from. I do like to run up and down them! 😁 up is actually easier than down on some parts!
I did 9 miles on the brand new a259 path from Climping to the Rolls Royce place near Lidl for a great flat route. Must do that again.
I love whiteways. used to walk the dog up there and also did a lot of training for my 100km walk. I did a bit of running last august time along the path from Whiteways to Eartham woods which is nice underfoot and a bit of uphill. I dont fancy the steep path by Toby's stone though!
Pulborough is lovely. I guess you can drop down to the river for a flat run too.
Main road for fast road running. I've pretty much outgrown the local streets for distance now. Local lanes but you have to pick your times, not too fun if too busy.
Trails and fields are my favourite, a short drive takes me to a great point on the South Downs Way or for flat, Downs Link. There's so many footpaths to explore, I'm still finding new parts.
If I'm going into the office I get up at 5.15 to do my run and run round the streets because they're lit, if I'm at home I go later and go slightly more rural in the hope of seeing the highland cow calf I've lived in my current village for 2 years and it's been a good way of getting to know my way round!
