Week 3 Run 1

I completed run 1 of week 3 last night and felt quite proud that I'd managed to run for 3 minutes at a time. My legs ached a lot last night and this morning in particular its my knees that are hurting. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm hoping that given time as I progress the pain will decrease. I hate the thought of having to give up the running!

Hi I'm same point as you doing my week 3 run 2 tonight. I was pleased I completed mine legs were bit like jelly haha I had this more 1st week and I dine stretches when got back just Googled it done squats lunges forward and to side and holding foot behind to bottom. This helped me. Is breathing in finding difficult fond I'm gasping for breath lol x

Well done.

As the guide to the plan states most new runner's aches and pains are caused primarily by the impact of running, so do all you can to minimise it. Slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.

Stretching after every run, as per the guide, and doing the knee strengthening exercises that Oldfloss has suggested will also help.
