After a tough W8R3, I was somewhat anxious about W9R1. Changed route and went back to off tarmac and on to an off road track. Bit of an uneven surface but that kept me focussed and maybe helped take my mind off running! I covered 4.2k in 30 minutes. It wasn’t completely flat and according to Fitbit I did 33 floors. I’ve suffered from shin splints and am cautious of going any sort of speed downhill as this is when I seem to do some damage. Any suggestions on how to develop speed safely downhill?
Phew! W9R1 done: After a tough W8R3, I was... - Couch to 5K
Phew! W9R1 done
Well done, not long to go now! 👌🏻
No tips on slowing down going down hill I tend to enjoy the relief and speeding up without effort ha ha
Congratulations Dowat on running your first 30 minute run of week 9, that distance covered of 4.2K is exactly the same as my graduation run 3 of week 9, not long now until you graduate, good luck. 👍 🏃
I’d suggest shorter stride slow jogging (how I run all the time!!) but it might work as a way of slowing down on the hills. I’m following the Japanese slow jogging technique as it’s low impact and designed to prevent injury.
I think thats kind of what I’m doing, as when I’ve tried to go faster, that’s when I’ve hit problems as I must then lengthen my stride. So I need to do short strides but more quickly! There’s more to this running malarkey than I’d realised!!
