Have I gone backwards?

Graduated 4 months ago but am finding now that I need to have very short walking breaks during my 4-5k runs. When I look at splits I am definitely faster now (though still pretty slow). Am I getting worse at running or is this OK?

You say your definitely getting faster maybe that's the problem that you're having to stop , try slowing down a bit and see if it helps 😊

Is running without a break definitely the most important aim?

I’m a bit like that. Trying to increase distance and finding I’m walking for stretches. Some days more than others, but I’ve decided it’s ok as long as I am out there doing it. I am hoping the need for walking will get less as I get slowly fitter and stronger 👍

Agree with Buddy34 - I’m 2 months from graduation and adding duration to my runs but sticking to the niko niko slow jogging technique, I’m still not at 5k yet, but am comfortable running for 40 mins. I think 5k at my speed will end up around 45/50 mins. Perhaps try a slow one for the next run and see how you go?

When was the last time you had a break of a week from running?

I reckon two or three times a year will have you coming back refreshed and rating to go.

Many of my PBs have come after a week off running.

Had a break round Xmas and then for a while with a cold so not exactly ‘positive choice breaks’ !
