Well done on joining the group as one of the, age related, mature runners. I have found this group and the helpful info really useful. I have gone very slowly repeating runs if my body was telling me to and recently had a long , 5 week break, travelling so I have dropped back to 3x 20 min runs to build up my stamina again before I rejoin my week 8 runs. No need for me to rush graduation, I feel it will come and I think this C25K programme is a great tool. Enjoy your running, and hope your knee quickly settles.

in reply toSummernights

Thank you, 3 x 20 minute runs sound scary given that I’ve only done 8 x1 min runs so far! Thank you for your encouragement really makes a difference

I just finished Week 9 and I'm 61 too! You can do this but do take care of yourself!

Well done 👍🏻 it takes courage to get up, out and running in public as an older novice. I have arthritic knees but have started physio recommended exercises to strengthen the supporting muscles, might be an option for you?

in reply toDomesticbelle

Thank you, willbear in mind

Hi, keep going, but look after yourself. I’m 63, never run before but just completed Week 3 Run 1 and still smiling. So glad I’ve taken on the challenge.

in reply toGreysurfer

Thanks for the encouragement, it’s good to know you are still enjoying it!

Well done on starting. I know how it feels . I am 63 and now on last run of week 8. I had a few aches and pains around week 3 but they passed and funnily enough my slightly twingey knee from way back has given me less trouble than ever. If you keep going, I would invest in some good running shoes. Congratulations . Keep going.xx

Thank you 😊

I’m 65 and started back in Jan.Try jogging on playing fields as it is much softer .I’ve a knee problem also but my physio says it’s o.k as long as I don’t run too fast- no danger of that from me!

in reply toethelmary

Good to know re the field asI thought uneven ground might make it worse, I’ll give it a go

That’s wonderful- congratulations and keep going!! I started at 58 and haven’t looked back 9 months later. Make sure your shoes are good though 😉

Well Done for starting the C25K, Take notice of what the administrators say! Slow and steady, I'm 72 and started last July. It took me 27 weeks to graduate, injuries sustained by trying to run too fast, etc., until I joined this forum and found the error of my ways. Have now done 4 park Runs and intend to carry on up to 10k, but again I have to take notice of these wonderful people and take it steady, they've done it so they know!! All the best with your journey!

in reply tojohnt46

Thank you, a 5k park run is my goal- well done you!

Well done that’s fantastic, I’m 60 now and started running a couple of years ago then got out of the habit. Just completed the course and feeling fitter than ever 😊

I’m 66 and started the C25K this year. I am on week 6. I have a bad knee but also have a good physio who taught me how to strap it up (patella strapping for tracking) before I run. My knee has been just fine. Also do the glute muscle exercises as they are what power your legs. See you at the finish line

in reply toBig_red

Thank you!

Oh, well done for starting. I’m 61 too and have a stop/start relationship with Couch to 5k. At the moment I am using week 1 podcast to do intervals (after reading Michael Mosley’s book Fast Exercise!)

Well! You certainly got loads of our age group putting their hands up proudly! With all the support on this brilliant forum you can’t go wrong! 👍🏻😊🐞

in reply toBishyBarnabee

So right, I’m amazed at the response and encouragement- thank you!

have you tried putting some ice on your knee.

in reply to

Thank you for the suggestion. It is an old injury from yoga! Am having 2 days rest, it’s only painful if I kneel on it!

Whooo hooo! Welcome! 61 is a great age and good on you for starting something new. You’re right to feel fantastic as you certainly are! There’s going to be more great times and celebrations ahead too! Well done you!! ❤️

hope there's not too much kneeling to be done then.

I am 63 i have never run either i did only 3 x60 sec runs and fast walking that afternoon my shins were sore then next day my thighs hurt then with being on my feet all day wasnt good had a rotten cold last 3 days so will wait till better then start again next wk but with normal walking and fast walking for perhaps a wk will see how i go

I’m new to running aged 63. Now on wk7 running 25mins. Didn’t think I would ever be able to run for that long. Take it easy- if your body needs an extra rest day take it, if you need to repeat a run - do so. We are not governed by time, but you are governed by your health. Well done for starting this brilliant programmer.
