Can you help? All over pains and lethargic

I am so disappointed with myself. I enjoyed couch to 5k followed the program without too much trouble. Graduated and again all ok. Ran in rain, wind, darkness, cold the lot. Then 3 weeks ago began aching everywhere, including wrist, neck. Took a few days off no difference, ran through the aches, more pain. Doctors say I need to have blood tests to see what is wrong.

What happened? What have I done wrong? I am finding it hard to run (though pushing myself to continue) but exhausted all the time.

Some friends are saying it is the running but I don’t believe it. Still doing what I have done since October and it is all of a sudden I am having problems.

I do have a stressful job, lots of driving and drive 600 miles every 6 weeks to see my elderly father and do his shopping washing etc but I have done this for years.

Any suggestions as very frustrated I am not my usual on the go self.

Thank you

I doubt very much that it is he running that is causing your issues, but sometimes getting active does highlight or occasionally trigger certain conditions.

We have had people discover that they were deficient in iron, for instance, which was possibly an underlying condition, but only became apparent after increasing the demands on their bodies.

I suspect that the blood tests will get to the bottom of the problem and that the solution will be relatively simple........ let's hope so.

On the other hand, you may just need a break. I would recommend every runner to have a week off a couple of times each year and generally you will find you come back revitalised and refreshed.

Most of my PBS have come soon after a week of no running.

Best wishes.

Because sometimes it does. Keep pushing yourself, liase with your doctor, get to the bottom of it. Identify the problem, solve the problem. Simples.

Thank you, though at the moment it doesn’t feel simple just frustrating

I know. But why stop doing something you enjoy so much? A run is just a run, whether it be 10 minutes or 50.
