Physio or sports physio?

Advice needed please.

I tore my cruciate ligament back in May and since then I have seen an NHS phsio but stopped going back in October as was not getting anywhere and several of the appointments were telephone based. I am still not improving and have pain etc.

I so dream of being able to jog again but even going for a 'normal' gentle dog walk is too challenging at the moment. Wondering if it might be worth while to seek advice (one off consultation maybe) from a private sports physio? I don't want to be left like this as i'm not old only 51! :O Not entirely sure what the difference between a normal physio is and if this is the sort of thing they could help with so if anyone could advise I would really appreciate it or any other ideas.

Just want to be back! :(

Thanks!

You poor thing. I don’t have any experience here, but I’d personally go and see a sports physio if I was in your position, as they’ll have seen such injuries and maybe able to help you with advice and maybe some strengthening exercises? The most important thing is that you heal before you start running again. I started this close to my 53rd birthday- so its certainly not too late! When you can start again, start very very slowly. I really recommend the ‘Japanese slow jogging movement’ (search for that on youtube) - this is only when you’re properly healed and ready to start again - but this could ease you in without risk of injury. Sending you all my sympathy and hope you’re on the mend soon.

Thanks DiscoRunner . Yes, I've seen that Japanese slow jogging technique. Even that would be great for me to achieve in the future. It's sooooo frustrating not being able to jog. I was always a slow jogger but not being able to do it at all is awful. Thanks for your best wishes! :)

I would strongly suggest a sports physio if you have one in your area - maybe try and get some recommendation from family/friends/work colleagues

Good luck!

John_W . I am now waiting to hear back from a sports physio. Not sure what sort of cost that will be but fingers crossed it might help. Thanks for your comment! :)
