Mild ankle pain

I graduated some time ago and then had a few problems with muscle strain and ligaments. I rejoined on week 5 and have been progressing very slowly, voluntarily doing each run 3 times before moving on. The good thing is that is has been relatively easy and actually a bit more enjoyable. When you finish a run and don't feel totally £$%^$£ it is a bit of a buzz!

Anyway to the point. Over the last week I get a little ankle pain. Nitice it going up stairs when I push off on the foot that has the pain. Does not seem to worry me running when I get going though sometimes the first couple of strides when you go from walk to run gives a sharp short pain but once settled into the stride am OK. Am 55 and a bit overweight but active and my fitbit says I have excellent fitness for my age.

Am tempted to just plod on I have had various aches and pains which I just think is age to be honest but I would like the thoughts of others please.

What are your shoes like?

They may not be supportive enough.

To minimise impact stay slow, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill. Stretch after every run.

Your body is trying to tell you something.

Shoes are Asics Gel. Largely run on treadmill and run 7.2 to 7.6 kmph so think I meet the criteria!

I had a painful foot in week 7 for no apparent reason. One night I was startled awake and found I was actually bending it backwards in my sleep - presumably Ethel on a sabotage mission ! I strapped it up with an elastic bandage over the next rest day and I’ve had no trouble since. Might be worth a try ? Hope things improve for you soon x
