I’m just starting W6 today so my reflections on W5 were I was like you, particularly R3. In reality R2 was harder and the euphoria finishing R3 was amazing. This plan is working for me so far so trust it. Pick flat routes, pace slow and steady, don’t bounce and you can do it. I treated myself to proper running shoes too, so comfy😀😀

Aspire24 said it all, really. Don't look ahead and worry yourself. Make sure you aren't trying to go faster than necessary. Check the advice - an 'easy conversational pace' (which means dead slow in my book!). And do invest in proper running shoes before you go much further. I didn't and suffered for it. They are really worth the money to protect yourself from injury.

Well done on your progress.

W5 workouts are shorter than last week's.

This might help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

The increase in TOTAL running from Week 3 to Week 4 is actually the largest increase in the whole program so Week 5 shouldn't hold any fears for you.

Also, if you're finding running for 5 minutes tough already, then you should SLOW DOWN ... think 'JOG' not 'run' - your effort level/breathing should be nice and comfortable and you should aim to finish each session NOT out of breath or gasping, but feeling like you could carry on. If that's not the case, then you're going too fast.

Good luck!

John

I’ve just got back from my week 5 run 3. The start I actually felt panicked!! It’s definitely mind over matter the run was actually ok and when it got to 20 min I could keep on going!! Reading all the comments before definitely helped to show me I could do it!! Have faith and go for it!

You don’t... don’t push at all... run slow and comfortable and just don’t stop... you can do it!!

The short answer is, you just do. You will see the same three words time and time in the comments here, "trust the programme". What I found - and many others say the same - is that as the going gets tougher, so do you. It's a great feeling when you think you can't do it and then you can. Don't try to over-think it and you'll be fine. Every week you're getting stronger. Good luck!
