W3r1: Struggling with this one big leap from W2r... - Couch to 5K
W3r1
Regardless of where you are in your running career, if you are finding it hard going you can make it so much easier for yourself by slowing down.
I did this run tonight - was also really nervous as have never exercised in my life until this and am in horrendous shape. I managed thanks to an awesome playlist - thankfully 2 minutes into second long run a fab song came on to lift me and I took it really steadily - could have probably been outpaced by a power Walker but kept up the running momentum. Chose a flat route too?
Just finished my W2r1 today too and for me tips about counting my breathing helped a lot, making sure i can still talk or sing helps me to pace myself especially because the running time is slightly increased.
The key to all the steps up is to keep the pace down. I see your reply to IannodaTruffe and would suggest instead of picking a place to run to, you just run towards a place and turn at the bell.
You’re completing the runs though, so you’re progressing through the plan nicely. Good job.
I honestly think that the early stages of C25k are the hardest, when you're building up your fitness. I remember so clearly struggling going from 60 secs to 90 secs, but now I can do 20 mins. I don't think you can rush the process of building up your strength and stamina. It will take a number of weeks. Personally , I only run twice a week and I do each stage for 3 weeks instead of 1. Much better to build up gradually and avoid injury !
Hi, I did W3R1 last night too, I struggled with the last 3 mins but slowed down for the last 60 seconds.
I recovered quite quickly so I’m believing in the process. Download some Kasabian and keep going!
I find as well as counting my breathing I focus on reaching a spot on the route. Then once I've reached that I focus on the next splint to reach. If you do small sections it does not seem so overwhelming and because you are so focused on reaching each target you forget how long you have been running. I did not think I would do any of it but have made it to week 6 and still going strong. As everyone says, slow and steady will get you there. Good luck🤞🤞
I play mental games with myself. I did W3R1 Sunday. I did not look ahead to what I had to do. I just put the podcast on and let Laura tell me. I also look ahead at my route and try to guess how far it is for 3 minutes. Laura lets you know how long you have gone and what you have left. That helps me because I know I can run 60 or 90 more seconds because I have already done that! It’s silly, but it works for me.
I’m on week 3 too and I’m just keeping it very, very slow. Snails pace slow. I think I most look like silly when running but rather that than give up or get injured. I found it a relief not to be doing so many runs and I’m hoping this will help me find my rhythm and style. At the moment I’m all over the shop 😂🏃♀️
