I just wanted to share a wonderful initiative I have got involved in recently - 5K your way/Move against Cancer. Set up in Cambridge in October by Mary Twitchett, fellow breast cancer sufferer/survivor, we meet on the last Saturday of each month to do our new parkrun at Coldham's Common. Some of us run, some jog, some walk but we all support each other. I got a massive cheer last week from my faster buddies waiting for me at the finish. Then we all walk back to the local gym together where we have a warm drink and chat. It really is a lovely thing! I have even got involved in volunteering here on the other Saturdays, trying out several roles. I'm even thinking of going for run director later in the year.
I'm at the back, you can see my white hair glowing lol!

What a great idea, and sounds like a really supportive bunch of people. Running has a way of bringing so much into our lives at different levels depending what we need.
Thank you RFC, I'm doing ok. It's been really hard, but I'm just about feeling back to my normal self. In training for the Cambridge HM in March, I shall be run/walking it, and just happy if I can get round in the time allowed (3 1/2 hours)
How is life treating you? I pop in here now and then but hardly know anyone any more...musty pop in more often and get to know more people!
We are doing fine thank you. The kidney transplant for MrRfc was two years ago in March and he is going great guns. I feel totally back to my old slow self,😀. I think recovery from things takes a little longer at my age and my patience ran out a few times but only made me more determined, two HM for me last year, one race walk only and one run walk. Got my Hackney half in May which I am looking forward to. I love run/walking the HM, I actually think you get to see the best of the fun side of the event, the crowds are so much fun and great motivators, I’m sure you will love it. Glad your giving it a go. Take care. Rfc x
So glad you are both doing well, and yes, I think it does take longer to recover at our age, and I think I have a few years on you! Yes, patience has been in very short supply over here too, I've got very frustrated on numerous occasions to be unable to do what I wouldn't have thought once let alone twice about before, and feared I would never get any level of energy back It's just over one year since my surgery, it really does knock you for six doesn't it?
Thank you for your encouraging words about run/walk, I shall think of you as I go round. Hugs xx
Hugs back. Duvet covers were my nemesis after surgery, I refused to ask for help therefore took me over an hour to change the dam thing without doing myself an injury but I did it 😂😂😂😂. Xxx
Thank you , you are very kind. As I've said above to RFC it's been frustrating to be so much slower than I was before, and I was never fast!! Still, I hang on to the thought that I am still here, still able to run, still out there in the light and air enjoying my lovely city of Cambridge. And of course back to Cordes just a few weeks after my HM.
Nice to hear from you again, Curly, and so happy that you're on the road to recovery. I haven't run in absolutely ages - too much going on with the parents and the hills here are not conducive … can't even walk at the moment due to the ice and snow. When the weather thaws I shall pull on my running shoes and start again. Take care xx
Lovely to hear from you again too, glad you're still here even if you can't run. Best of luck with your next running journey, will you do the programme again?
