a few words from the little old pot bellied running machine

well guys it's been a little while since I posted on here but I got a little prompt this evening so thought I better report home and try and offer a few words of encouragement/advice

This is one of my little things but something that makes a BIG difference.

It was I think w5 with the 10 minute runs and on the 2nd run I had to walk for maybe 15 seconds, that night I came on the c25k forum and read a post from a member who had "discovered" sustainable pace.

What is sustainable pace

It really is very simple it's a pace that you can maintain for a required period of time so if you are struggling to run for a set period of time but can't your probably running to fast so you just need to slow it down.

Sounds so very simple but that's because it is and guess what it works.

Out for my very next run I slowed it down (to achieve sustainable pace) and guess what I went straight through with no problem, sustainable pace so very simple and so effective

So slow it down people don't be worrying pace/speed that can come later, for now it's about running for the time required.

Just a final little word warning, this running malarky is just a tad addictive!

I read your title and thought “I don’t remember posting this” 😂

Great advice as always, thanks... and yes, the current ice outside and my mood back up the addiction theory... I’m going crazy in here!

You are so right. It took me 5 attempts at W5R3 to figure that out, but once I did it felt like I could just keep going.

And yes to becoming addicted too. Even a bad run is better than no run!

I love that sustainable, slow pace, it leads to lovely runs. On other days, I like to push a little harder and feel the effort. After 9 weeks of running I still feel like a learner driver, crunching the gears and often getting it wrong!

oh once you're graduated it's ok to push but even then at times sustainable pace is still important.

Really helpful advice as I am in W4 and whilst I managed my run today I think I did run too fast in sections. Classic tale of the hare and tortoise then!

when the app tells you to run it doesn't mean race off, move into a running motion and set off at a steady snails pace.

Running for the time required is far more important than pace/speed at this stage

A few words about addiction....

A quiet day at work so I thought I would add my pennyworth to the whole 'running is addictive'...
