Welcome. Phone is probably the easiest way as the app will tell you when to walk and when to run. Best tip is to run slowly... check during the runs that you can talk in full sentences. I didn’t start with an injury as such... my knees had been painful every day for 30 years.

Brilliant. I didn’t know the app told you when to move. Thank you

There is a C25K app which guides you through the whole 9 weeks program, you can take longer than 9 weeks if you wish by repeating individual runs or weeks. I got the app from Google Play Android by asking for C25K app, once you begin you have a choice of 4 coaches, good luck to you. I am sure there are other ways as well which you can get the C25K app. No, you don't need to carry a stopwatch with you.

Welcome to the forum.

Do check out the link from davelinks it is full of tips.

Many suffer from aches and pains in the early weeks due to the impact of running so do all you can to minimise it. Stay slow, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop..............all of these reduce the impact, which someone with an injured foot needs to bear in mind.

Enjoy your journey.
