I just have to post this... (look at image) - Couch to 5K
I just have to post this... (look at image)
Hahahaha. Well something to aim for. Maybe she should do it with you... just saying!
I donβt know whether to be flattered or horrified!
ππ³π€£
I think the bit that makes me laugh the most is "Alex and I would be very supportive"
Yeah well I can be supportive too but it's not necessarily make you run the 21km easily just like that haha!
2 months... 13 miles... I think that was about my pace a few months ago π
Itβs certainly run/walk possible! Iβd be signing your mum up and saying good luck to her π
The thought crossed my mind lol. But she is in her mid 70s and was puffing on a 2k walk the other day, so didnβt want to turn the screw π
She really thinks I can do this UNM! She is deluded!
Haha re pace! Yes, if I had 2 months to run it I might just get there!
Sounds like she needs a dose of C25k
Itβs never too late to start! Sign her up for here... she can do it! A challenge for a challenge I say... she runs 30 minutes, then you do 13 miles π
I have been working on her! Sheβs a bit bionic - false hips and knees (or is that my dad?). Anyway, lots of false bits and arthritic, so she isnβt mad keen. Iβd be reluctant to get involved in ANY sort of bet, however good the odds, where my having to run a half marathon was the wager! And I have just looked at it! Itβs a βchallenging multi-terrain undulating courseβ π³
I did like the one Thunder Sloth posted the other day... 13 miles... 13 ciders... almost signed up immediately!
So you have looked into then?π€£π€£
In the way that you canβt quite not look at a car wreck...
π€£π€£π€£, I read your post before I went to work, and drove in thinking here's my mum telling me not to overdo it, that I will make myself ill . And there's yours trying to kill you!π€£π€£π€£
Sorry this made me really laugh....my dad on the other hand keeps telling me to not over do it.....dad Iβm just about at 3k in 30 mins, I can walk faster!!!
Are we all coming on a C25K jolly to cheer you on then? Cos, y'know, we can all be really supportive too π
Arenβt Mums fantastic motivators lol x
It does seem a little optimistic, but it is good to have goals to aim for.......
If you can do it - we can do it this gives everyone inspiration to achieve! I've done my 1st 5k, now I want to improve my time and start thinking about a 10k then a half marathon then a full one! Success is addictive- You can do it!!
ktsok , tell your mum she can be supportive by running with you ππ
oh bless - she hasn't really got this yet has she? maths not her strong point?
You mum is right, you can run the HM. But you would need to work towards it and want to do it.
Not yet though.Maybe next time round.
Mumβs are always right...... you know that π, she just got the timing wrong ππΌππ»ββοΈππ»
Technically it is within your grasp. However, you will need to push your body to get the training in ready for the start line; and hope you don't suffer any injuries in the meantime. It is maybe a little too soon.
The cautious answer would be: There will be other HMs. Its a challenge and one that I am sure you are capable of, but theres no race to get it in. Concentrate on your 5ks and build up slowly. Learn to enjoy 5k before moving to 10k and so on. You will be stronger and enjoy your running more. Next year, after acheiving many things this year, it will be a good aim to have.
I am in the too early camp, but there is a more fundamental point here. This would be a massive commitment of time and effort, whenever you try it. Do you actually want to do it? This is something you should only do for yourself if at all. Sorry mum but your wishes don't make the evaluation scorecard!! π
Awwww bless her! Its lovely that she has that kind of faith in you telling you that you CAN rather than you CANT. And shes right, you COULD do it if you chose to, a bit of jeffing, and you'd finish. I ended up doing 10miles by mistake yesterday. Yes it was a pig BUT I was able to do it, and I ended up running the last couple of miles back. So we definitely could do a half if we chose. That said, personally I think I'll wait a few months!
Iβm not sure who this βweβ is Phoenix. A quarter marathon still looks a mighty long way up a hill and across the downs! π
ππ this made me laugh. Take her out for W1R1 and see how she gets on........
π€£π€£π€£ thank you so much for sharing it, you have brightened up my morning. I have read it 4 times already, always laughing π€£π€£π€£
Your mother is adorable! It is so nice to see her faith in what you can achieve! You can be proud π!!! And she must be right, you could do it if you would decide to, although it may take you a bit longer than she would expect... π€£π€£π€£
Ha I mentioned that I went for a run and a swim on Sunday and then got an invite to take part in the Blenheim Palace Triathlon from a friend who tried to convince me that I could in6 weeks cycle for 20km and run for 5k with a swim in between. I did have to laugh π
On the upside a positive thinker... at least itβs better than the family and friends who say youβre mad when you start running. But what a smile that brought to my face.
Your mother believes in you! She sounds funny and sweet. This is like when I tell my husband I've written a first draft of a novel and he starts making his shopping list for all the stuff he's gonna buy when I turn out to be the next JK Rowling!!
Love how confident your mum is in you. My own opinion is that it's a bit soon for that distance, I'd concentrate on getting through the c25k first. My dad is the opposite of your mum and tells me 3x a week is too much and I'm overdoing it!
Iβd managed W2 r1 and my friend asked me to sign up for the great north run! Iβm like errr 90 seconds is a great achievement at the moment I think 13 miles is a bit ambitious πππ
