I weighed myself today... Whoops!

I've always been big. It's not me fat shaming myself, it's a fact. When I saw my grandmother, who had Alzheimer's, she said "God, you're a big lad". I've never been bothered, but now, I weighed myself and at 35 years old, I'm 21st 3lb or 135.4 kg. That was a shock! There's nothing wrong with that weight, I just don't want to live with the associated health conditions. My back hurts, I sweat all the time and, when I walk up the stairs I worry that every breath will be my last.

With the above in mind, I've made some diet based lifestyle changes and I'm beginning the C25K.

Here we go!

Welcome. With the right nutrition and this plan you have a formidable partnership. The secret to this and weight loss is slow and steady. The one slight drawback is early on the running will build some muscle and so will slow the dropping of the numbers in the scales... if this happens, don’t worry... measure yourself too, running will tone you up, and the tape measure will show the full picture. You can do this, and you can lose the weight. Enjoy your journey.

Good luck and be sure to let everyone know how you are doing.

I am sure that once you’ve done your first few runs, you’ll start to feel not only good about yourself, but more positive too.

I found the program gave me a fitter body, but also a fitter mind! X

You couldn’t have made a better decision Dezza. This programme has the potential to change your life. It’s challenging, but it’s ultimately doable, with each week/run setting you up for the next. 😀

You can do it! You’ll hear ‘slow and steady’ more times than you can imagine, but they’re important words and they’ll help you on your journey.

Enjoy the programme, and tell us how you’re getting on. Any advice you need, ask. We love to help!

Well done Dezza! 😀🏃💪👍 👊

Welcome to the forum Dezza. It sounds like you've made a good decision. Changing your diet and taking up running will certainly help you minimise the health risks you allude to. C25K is an excellent programme to get you from being sedentary to being able to run for 30 minutes. If you download the app or the podcasts they are really helpful if you play them as you run through your phone and headphones.

The forum is a brilliant place, full of really enthusiastic novices and more experienced runners too. So there's lots of encouragement, advice and guidance to be had, and you'll be able to share how well it's going, or have a moan when it's getting tough.

Good luck, I'm sure you're going to be so successful.
