from high to low!

I did W5 run 2 2 days ago and felt elated that I had managed the 8 minutes runs. BUT this morning I am limping again and there is a slight puffiness above the arch of my right foot so I can't do the 20- minute run that I had psyched myself up to do today. Am so disappointed! - I will have to wait till it feels better and the do W5R2 again. I guess pride does come before a fall!

You made a sensible decision.

Recover fully before heading out again.

Unless you miss a couple of weeks or more there should be no need to go back, just pick up where you left off.

thank you - I really wanted to get to that 20 minute mark - as I know that once I have done it, it will be much easier to extend my running time. BUT no point rushing it - I am 59 and the joints are not as young as they used to be!

Great decision... knowing when not to run is just as important as getting out there. Hopefully you’ll be back in action soon.

Oh Mafee I’m sorry to hear that. It completely sucks when a part of our body tells us ‘no’. And the 5:3 run is a big one so it’s extra disappointing! But... it will be there waiting, whenever you are ready :)

I am so frustrated but more determined than ever now to get it done this week ( some time) Hope you are still going strong!

It is frustrating, but hold onto the advice here that our ‘conditioning’ doesn’t disappear for a couple of weeks and we come back stronger from longer rests.

I wouldn’t say I’m going strong, but I am going. My left knee is tweaking and my right hip is a bit sore, so I’m icing the knee and rolling the hip over a tennis ball to try and ease the tightness. I’m meant to be doing 6:2 tomorrow but I’ll see how the knee feels first.

I watched a bit of the Michael Moseley program about fitness earlier. It’s on iPlayer. At about 38:15 it has a segment about running and the impact on joints, knees in particular. It’s quite reassuring, actually - apparently the cartilage benefits from the bouncing rather than getting worn down by it, as is generally believed. And osteoarthritis is less common in runners than non-runners. Bit suspect, that one - if you have osteoarthritis I’d think there is a greater chance of not taking up running... 🤔

It might feel that way, but it’s only a couple of runs. I hope our little gang will be posting casually about our 5k runs in a few months, and even better, in a few years. It’s a long term relationship, not a sprint 🙂

Ps. Ceroc is hardcore! Not much rest going on lol

I might not get there - all that spinning on a dodgy foot doesn't really sound sensible - but I like the wine in the pub afterwards!
