Made a start

I’m 57 and hopelessly out of condition - not having done any meaningful exercise for many years. My weight being well over that recommended for my height.

I’ve taken up the Couch to 5k challenge with the aim (initially) of getting my weight down to around 17 stone

Have completed Week 1 and last night did W2R1. Quite a few aches but persevering. Trying to fit in a 30 minute walk in on non-running days (and hopefully on run days too but will have to see how that goes) to supplement the runs.

Welcome to both of you. Enjoy your journey x

Welcome and well done! Please do check out this Newbie post....:)

You are right to try to pop in some non impact exercise on some rest days.. it is necessary for core strength and stamina... walking, as you say is great..or swimming or cycling.. yoga or Pilates etc...

Do make sure you warm up really well and the stretches after each and every run are really essential!

Welcome 🖐️

And great job starting this amazing programme. You've already done the hardest run Wk1R1. I thought I was going to die when I attempted mine!

The manta here is slow and steady 🐌, it's about building up your fitness levels and stamina, and not speed.

Make sure you read the pinned posts for new starters, it's good advice.

And we're all here to support you and help you with your running journey 🏃 👍..... Most importantly.. Enjoy it

I'm doing a set of stretches (about half an hour) on non-run days. I found bits of me possibly never used before were really clunky and the stretches are definitely helping

The NHS Strength and Flex podcasts are really helpful for this.

Well done. Today I’ll be doing w1r3 and it has got easier

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you for the welcome.

I am well set to get started on my new journey

I think you've made a fabulous start - well done you! I am overweight myself (lost 3 stone before I plucked up the courage to do this and still need to lose another 3 stone). I won't pretend it's easy but it is worth it!

Fantastic, you should feel proud of yourself. Best of luck 😊
