It's no secret, I'm not a spring chicken or a natural runner, but I have led a fairly active life which my joints keep reminding me of!
I tried running in 2017, and whilst I was ok in the early stages, the longer runs caused little injuries. What has worked for me is having the time to go to the gym in the morning before work and over the last 6 months, I've done quite a bit of resistance training on my legs which has made them a lot stronger. This in turn (touch wood) seems to have stopped me from picking up niggly injuries and made running a lot easier.
I appreciate not everyone has the time! But thought I'd share it anyway!

This is so true. If you decide to progress from 5km upwards we always say Stregnth training is really part of your training. Well done for getting started with it. It is a bit harder to fit in but so worth it.
Thanks for sharing - good to know others also find benefits of resistance training. Much as I hate it, the strength work I do on Good Gym runs has really helped me too. I wouldnt be motivated to do it on my own after a run 😁Makes my muscles ache for 48 hours but, yes, the legs are a lot less troublesome these days. 👍
