Disappointing 🙄

After completing C25K last week 😀 and feeling great. I’ve just done my second consolidation run and for the first time measuring my distance so imagine my disappointment when (missing Jo already 😟) An American guy informs me after 30mins I’d only managed 1.92 miles. Oh no I thought and ploughed on for another 5 mins and still after 35 minutes of running I’d only done 2.79 miles😱. I don’t think I have enough energy to speed up!! Help?

I think that's an incredible achievement considering 9 weeks ago you began running for just 60 seconds 😊. Don't be disheartened. You're doing brilliantly. Give it some more time!

Thanks😊 Yeah feeling better about it now I've eaten and showered! Also converted to km sounds much better ha. I'll just keep running and enjoying it x

Don't been down hearted, sounds like you're going well.

Do check how you're measuring the distance as if I've understood your post correctly, it sounds like you almost covered an extra mile in that extra 5 minutes and that's nearly 3 times faster than the first 30 minutes.

Don't sweat it, but I suggest have a check how on you're recording things

Good Luck.

Feeling better now thanks to you lot😊. Yeah my second mileage is correct after 35mins (converted into km doesn't sound so bad either ha). I'm just gonna keep running and see x

Absolutely no rush to run far and fast. When you started C25K I bet you were pleased as punch to run 8 x 1 minutes. Look at the massive difference in those 9 weeks. 😀

Your running legs are still developing. The more miles/kms you log in them, the stronger they’ll become.

Keep consolidating. Don’t risk injury by trying to achieve too much too soon. It’ll come if you want it to.

Keep running and enjoy it. 👍😀🏃‍♀️

Is 30 minutes comfortable yet?

If you want to be running 5k (3.11 miles) the first thing to do is go to the distance, it won’t come to you so easily, so extend one run to 35 minutes, then up to 40 the week after. That should be 5k at your pace from today... that’s step one.

Keep extending a run, maybe take it to 60 minutes over time, and then every other cycle of 3 drop one of your 30s down to 15-20 and run just above comfortable pace. Now your long run is building endurance and your short is getting you used to going a little faster. Put the short back to 30 after a couple of cycles and run long slow, 30 slow, then 30 starting comfortable, then up to that just above pace you were working on.

30 mins is ok (I wouldn't say comfortable) but I'll take your advice it sounds like a good plan😊. I think I was starting to feel a be directionless🙄so thank you x

I’m following a 5k race plan, and then going to do that again after Christmas... it takes the long run to 10 miles 😱

There’s also ju-ju- and her great 10k plan once you’re at 5k... that does lots of work on endurance (obviously) and some speed work with great cross training.

You are running............. you weren't doing that a few weeks ago.

Talk of 5k in 30 minutes makes many think that this arbitrary target is one they should be able to achieve easily, totally disregarding the vast range of abilities, genders, ages and physical conditions that participants bring to the plan.

We all have to accept that our pace is our pace and with some dedicated hard work it can be improved.

Be proud of your achievement, knowing that 90% of graduates surveyed on this forum did not hit a sub 30 minute 5k at graduation.

As you get more miles on your legs you will get stronger and faster......... you are still a very, very new runner......there is plenty of time.

Thanks for your encouragement and advice 😊. Everyone is right I should be proud of what I’ve achieved not worrying about what I haven’t yet! x

That’s great you can run for 30min.

I can only manage 4K (2.49miles) in 32min and also graduated last week. What you are doing is better than nothing. Just keep doing 30min or like I have decided to go to 4K and then stop until I feel ready to build more.

Just keep going and doing what you are doing it wonderful!

It’s hearing encouraging comments from you guys that keeps us going🏃‍♀️ I’m sure I wouldn’t have kept going if it wasn’t for this great forum 😊 Thanks Neverranbefore x
