Went for a wee run from work at teatime today. It was dark and I was going to be running on rural roads with no pavements or streetlights so I had reflective clothing, head torch, light-up arm band and only one earphone in.
Nevertheless I hadn't gone far when I began to realise that I was actually a wee bit scared, out on my own in a lonely place like that. Imagine my delight when the next song on my playlist came on: "All by myself... Don't want to be all by myself."
After a mile and a half I was thinking, "At least the last bit of the run will include going through a village. There are pavements and streetlights there. And people!
That was right before I arrived at the level crossing to be told, "The barriers are stuck down. They're trying to fix them now. Don't know how long they'll be..."
Hey ho. "Guess I'm going back the Dark Lonely Way then."
I was so glad to get back to my nice safe workplace.
I work in a prison.

Bit dodgy running in the dark with no pavement and no lights, perhaps it was just as well the level crossing was closed and you got back to 'prison' safely, only you know if working in a prison is safe, better luck with your runs next time Anne.
Many years ago, the Wardens in a certain prison system went on strike. The Army was called in. A Sargeant went from cell to cell in the maximum prison his Platoon had been assigned to.
To each inmate he introduced himself the same way -
"Hello. My name is Sgt ----. I don't want to be here and I know you don't want to be here. I don't want trouble and you don't want ground glass in your breakfast. "
Funny what songs our playlists will find. Mind did the Jackson 5 "Can you feel it" when i was plodding up a massive hill on Sunday, followed by Ariana Grande "Breathin"! I'm sure it did it on purpose... .
Yes I've had a few funny lyrics too. When I was in about Week 4 of C25k I burst out laughing when Freddie Mercury sang to me, "Going to make a supersonic woman of you" and "travelling at the speed of light". It was so ridiculous - in reality if I'd been going any slower I'd have been going backwards!
Last time I ran outside I was so scared I had no head torch etc massive fields both sides of the road I now run on a treadmill at the gym roll on spring x
