Went for a wee run from work at teatime today. It was dark and I was going to be running on rural roads with no pavements or streetlights so I had reflective clothing, head torch, light-up arm band and only one earphone in.
Nevertheless I hadn't gone far when I began to realise that I was actually a wee bit scared, out on my own in a lonely place like that. Imagine my delight when the next song on my playlist came on: "All by myself... Don't want to be all by myself."
After a mile and a half I was thinking, "At least the last bit of the run will include going through a village. There are pavements and streetlights there. And people!
That was right before I arrived at the level crossing to be told, "The barriers are stuck down. They're trying to fix them now. Don't know how long they'll be..."
Hey ho. "Guess I'm going back the Dark Lonely Way then."
I was so glad to get back to my nice safe workplace.
I work in a prison.
