Hi, I’ve just finished my second run of week three and have developed pain on the inside of both my knees extending about 10 cm down the inside. Any ideas on how to ease the pain?

Well done so far. Hydration needs to be good, land your feet flat and under your body and don’t push the pace, run slow and gently. If you haven’t already done so, getting good running shoes will help a lot.

Thanks for the tips, I was thinking about changing my trainers anyway so now may be a good time.

How do you know what are good running shoes

My trainers are light and care free

But I hurt bad

I could buy 10 pairs and be the same

How will I know

For 95% of us, and the other 5% of us only find out we are in that group by doing this, finding the right shoes means a trip to your local specialist running store. They’ll ask questions about how far you intend to run, how many times a week, what surfaces, budget, etc. They’ll also not ask some questions that they can assess and not cause offence like how heavy you are and gender. They’ll probably want to look at the soles of your current shoes and then either pop you on the treadmill in them or some shoes of theirs. They will video you running and then go away and review the footage. You’ll then get to see how your feet land in slow motion, and they will discuss your running style with you. Then, they will go and get the shoes that they think will be best for you. From those shoes you need to pick the most comfortable pair, they may feel like you’re not wearing them. Then you run in those on the treadmill and they will show you how you run in them. Those are the best shoes for you.

I have bad knees generally. I followed the advice on here - “clench your butt and kiss the ground” is my running mantra. Only on W2 run 1 but so far so good. Also do resistance training at gym to strengthen legs and butt muscles
