Cold weather running gear.

So having started this running lark just before the summer heat wave, i was hit by the cold spell big time today. Set off with a fleece over my vest top as it was so cold and of course had to stop to take layers off half way through. Advice needed now fimblewinter approaches: what gear do i need to persevere with running when it's so cold outside?

A hat that covers your ears, gloves and a light weatherproof jacket.

Thanks for asking this Lucyfer, I keep meaning to and forgetting. The last few weeks I've been going out in a hoody because we have a 3/4 mile walk to the park where we run, and it's getting super chilly. But, like you, once the runs started I was spending my precious walking time wrestling with it trying to take it off!

One thought I had, is to plan runs out and back, so you can drop off clothing layers, and pick them up on the way back. If you are anything like me (waist disappeared years ago) there is nowhere to put the removed layers, and you will take them off quite early in the run too.

The advice seems to be to dress for weather that is 7C warmer than it actually is.

I also find the bobble-hat the most useful thing as it is easy to take off on the hills and put back on as you go down again.

I was going to ask the same thing! I moved to long leggings today (from cropped length) and wore gloves as on Saturday my hands were very cold. It was so frosty here yesterday (Leeds) that I also wore a buff over my ears but had to take it off as it’s milder today. I am experimenting with layers but probably will need a windcheater soon

I hate wearing anything on my head, but have got a variety of layers - vest top, mid layer, micro fleece, thin waterproof jacket to mix and match. Probably need long leggings though! Whatever I wear though I seem to end up red faced and sweaty!
