Wet weather running gear?

Hiya, being a new graduate who hadn't run previously, this may be a daft question, but what do you ladies wear when it's raining ?? I can't believe I'm happy to go out running in the rain, but I want to wear something appropriate so I don't get soaked. I don't think I'd enjoy that as I don't like the rain 😂 but any ideas to keep me out there in the wet would be a great help please. Thanks 👍

Hi there MKE1968 ...I absolutely love running in the rain...I just wear my usual stuff & start with a very thin waterproof running jacket but after 5 minutes it’s off & tied round my waist....I just get soaked through...once you’re wet, you’re wet 😉

Hi Mummycav, thanks 😊 I've found some previous posts on here and a lot say the same thing as you. I think long legs and a cap are a must for me but I'll have to give it a go and take it from there👍

Def long legs...& the cap thing, well, I never, ever thought I’d wear a cap but whilst it’s been sunny I have worn one & I feel SERIOUS!!! So much so that I changed my profile picture to me wearing one!! So yes...a cap, not just for rain 😉

Same. Treated myself to a new North Face lightweight jacket and run in the rain with it flapping behind me like a cape. The rain was cooling me down and feeling rather lovely so the jacket didn't even get an airing. Might do in the colder weather! 😁

Definitely a cap to stop drips.... the wet kind:) I have a Trail Head one... big brim:) I have a couple of lightweight rain jackets... for really yukky days, when it is raining before you head out... but if it rains when I am out, well it is just rain... and we do dry :)

I'm not a laydee but when I started c25k I bought a lightweight showerproof / windproof jacket to wear when the weather's bad.

It's W6R3 for me tomorrow and I haven't had to wear it yet 😆

I went out in rain today with a lightish water proof coat 2mins into run coat was off n tied round my waist. I love running in the rain something I find very therapeutic. Also hides the sweat dripping off your face too as I don't wear a hat

I`m not a laydee either but I have just worn either a short sleeved T shirt if rain is not cold or a very lightweight polyester coat on top of T shirt. Always wear shorts. It is funny but the worse part is the 5 min warm up walk in the rain. Once running and it is not a torrential downpour you hardly notice the rain and like others I have come to enjoy it.

I think come winter I may change my mind but that is for the future (-:

My lightweight waterproof jacket, bought for walking, is perfect. It does breathe. It also has a little peak built into the hood. Very useful!

Running in the rain is one of life's pleasures. Honestly. Try it. I always feel like a seven year-old and run with a smiley heart 🤗 Mind you, I grew up in Ireland where rain was a daily occurance 🙄

If you really hate getting wet then you can buy light waterproof jackets but I've heard they make you sweat so why bother?

Our skin is waterproof and once we're wet we're wet. You feel epic at the end of a really wet run......💪💪💪

I too am a new graduate and actually went out tonight in usual attire, hoping it would rain, lol. Instead I somehow timed my run for in between showers, which I was actually quite disappointed at, lol. It’s been so hot lately was actually looking forward to a fresher run. But that besides, I was happy to go out in leggings and vest top as usual. I suppose when it starts to cool a bit more then I’ll look at getting a light jacket to run in, but until then I’m happy to go au natural! ☔️

I picked up a light weight cycling jacket that's not tight around the bottom from the men's section in decathlon. Much better equipped with zipped pockets than kostbrunning ones ive tried on and luminous yellow so perfect for my rural route if it darkens with the rain. I think it will get me through autumn too although not heavy enough for winter

Hey MKE I have a very lightweight waterproof jacket. I’ve been out in the rain and surprisingly I loved it! Didn’t expect that at all. I also wore long leggings! It’s only rained once while I’ve been out doing a run, but the rain wouldn't deter me from going out for my run in the future. If it’s a major downpour...maybe! ❤️

Hey lovely

I'm a sweaty Betty, (not the smelly kind though, even though there's nowt wrong with that, haha), but I sweat as soon as I say or think of running, warm weather, hot weather and cold weather, plus menopausal times too 🤣🤣 so I'd wear my usual bears, loose Rees, etc and I'd wear long or cropped leggings. I'd never wear a mack as I know it would blow my head off and I'd have that cold sweat feeling, which makes me feel clammy then. This is personal to me though, as a mack in the rain is good protection from getting completely soaked.

I've started wearing a cap, so that's a good choice. 👍

I think you'll be fine if you go with any or all of the suggestions here, so good lu j and here's to your first rainy running outing.

Good luck chick xx

Had my first run in the rain today,(W9R2) and just wore my usual running t shirt and trousers. As others have said, you get wet, but that’s ok (the temperature was fine). I might buy a cap though, to help keep rain off my specs!
