I love running on cold mornings when it's frosty, Meg...but icy conditions are a no no in my opinion, I'd love to go for a run in the morning, but I'm not going to, I'd give it a miss if I were you and go when it's not going to be icy.
That's a tricky one, Meg...I'd hate to say you would be OK on a trail, and then hear you have slipped and injured yourself, so I'm going to stick with my original response and say give it a miss, because even though you are running in a wooded area you still might slip and fall.
Cold? Yes... run... its good for you and winter runners run stronger in the spring.
Ice? Avoid... either don’t run or find somewhere without ice patches. I saw a tip from someone who walked their route to check for ice before running it the other day... longer warmup, safe run, all good. I’d be looking at frozen grass and footpaths as a better option than ice on pavements right now.
If running from home, get a warmup done indoors and you’ll benefit on the run.
I have been running in the cold and ice but only because my route is all bridleway (so not slippery) and no pavement. If it was pavement I wouldn't risk it.
I have made sure my ears are covered and needed thin gloves til halfway through. I also doubled up on my socks as the previous cold run I had cold toes!
