W7R3 - Time for a break ⏰

Strange thing last night, was laid out on the sofa on my phone editing a video. Got up to make a cuppa and my whole body ached like crazy for about 30 seconds. It wore off as quickly but was a new one. Some mornings on a run I've felt a little achey in my knees, but it's worn off after a couple of minutes.

Since starting CT5K I've also set a challenge & been trying to make sure I've got my 10k steps in daily. Pretty easy with Odie 🐶there daily to motivate me, but think it maybe just starting to take it's toll. In the early weeks I started off just doing a 3 mile or so walk on run days and a 5 mile walk with him through the woods. Around week 3-4 I was enjoying the longer walk that much I started doing the same 5 mile walk on run days too (usually a couple of hours afterwards). It's never really been a problem and have felt like it's actually helped build stamina up a bit.

I've still managed a couple of lighter days here and there to take a break, but think now I may need to slow it down for the final assault on these last 2 weeks. Strava says I've clocked up 118 miles this month running and walking, and whilst it's gotten a bit addictive think I may need to take it a little easier this last couple of weeks to make sure I have no hiccups. Strange it's only happened this last week though, so thinking it maybe to do with the lack of intervals in the runs that's just pushing the muscles a bit more than before.

After Wednesday's reckless run I toned it down a bit today, kept things at a pace I felt more comfortable at. One mistake I'd made again was to set off too late, after 11 again and hadn't eaten. If I'm going to stick to running on an empty stomach, really going to have to make sure I get out earlier..

Run generally went fine, still had a couple of moments of doubt but pushed on through knowing I had a nice long 2 days off to try and recover a bit. Reaching week 8 would also be a bit of a buzz, so slogged on through. Had more energy at the end of the run than Wednesday but nothing really to try for a nitro finish like I felt on Monday.

Anyway still really chuffed I've got this far, and looking forward to resting a bit and trying out the challenge of 28 mins on Monday, hopefully the extra day will be enough.

Ironically the video I was messing about with was one from yesterdays walk, a bit of a test now I'm starting to gear up into holiday mode 🌞

Good run... hope you don’t get a recurrence of that aching episode... probably right to ease back a little. Enjoy week 8

Wow what a lovely place to walk & run!! Odie a beaut too!! Sounds like your a busy man sHAYM4N, if your not running your walking.......miles!! Kudos to you. Rest well & happy running👍🏻

thanks, yep it's a really nice route & before CT5K I used to jog sections of it, but that's when I went over on my ankle. Nice to get away from the traffic and noise from my running route too. We'll be leaving Odie for the first time when we head out on holiday in December so thought it would be a nice reminder if my gf overly misses him (which I know she will!) 😊

As you’re doing a lot of walking as well as building the runs you’re right to pull back a bit. I know running and walking are different exercises but you are putting a lot of miles in. Generally on training programmes say for a half or full marathon the training builds up and then reins back for a week to give the body a rest. This is what you are proposing and is the right thing to do 👍 .

Awesome thanks for that, yep thinking about it did something similar when training for the 3 peaks a few years back too. Hopefully does the trick!

You have amazing place to walk / run / play with Odie. Odie is adorable! <3

Have a nice rest, don't overdo it ;) Have a nice lay in for a change ;) or just shorter walk. I tend to do shorter walks with my dog on run days.

Anyway well done for your run!
