Still doing it my way

Still doing it my own way while listening to Michael Johnson :-)

Sunday i was out on my bike, did a steady days worth of riding to Consett and then back to Sunderland. 26 miles uphill to Hownsgill cafe (food and cake) then 26 miles downhill home.

Last night should have been Wk6R1 but i warmed up then just ran. I quite like it that way, having MJ popping in ever so often to keep me going. I actually ran for 42 mins and did 5.7k, still could have done a bit more, am sticking to that route this week no extensions. Will be doing my first parkrun on Saturday then next week will up the distance while still listening to MJ. I know this is completely unorthodox but was a fairly competent treadmill runner (and smoker) before, now i'm 32 days smoke free and feel miles better for it. I admittedly do plod the streets but i'm doing it.

I know i've been given lovely and sound advice about following the programme but it doesn't feel enough for me. Sorry to everyone.

The main thing for me is I am enjoying it, off on my winter holiday in 4 weeks so will be able to run in the sun for a week.

Whatever gets you through and keeps you going. But do be aware doing too much running too soon can lead to injury. Oh! And you’ve just missed out on one of the infamous runs (w6r1).

Out of interest how far did you used to run on the treadmill?

Do remember that cycling and running are entirely different and use different muscles (I used to ride long distances and the occasional race). Cycling itself is not a weight baring exercise and is a good recovery exercise.

Glad you are enjoying yourself. Running in the sun will be great!

hi Annie

I've been a treadmill runner for a couple of years, I at the bare minimum do two 10 mins runs on the treadmill in the gym most days which was about a mile each time, before doing other stuff. 1x10 min warm up 1 x 10 min at the end of my gym session. But, i could never master the outside running, now not smoking and focussing on MJ talking to me over my music is helping. I'm fit healthy and a regular cyclist, swimmer, gym goer.

If the gym isn't too warm i have been known to do 45 mins on the treadmill paying more attention to endurance rather than distance.

That makes more sense (not meaning to be rude ☺️). I can relate to the not being able to run outside too. I can now though thanks to the programme. 6yrs in, no recovery from the addiction in sight😀. It’s a whole new world away from the gym.

Sometimes folk have posted on here in a similar vein and then got injured doing too much too soon. I was just a bit concerned for you but can see you have it all in hand.

Thank you Annie. I am very slow and steady outside and just enjoying the coolness of the air. I have problems with overheating which makes me throw a tantrum and stop whatever im doing :-)

I'm finding doing this outside in the cooler air is enjoyable now.

Yes the cooler air is great. I was getting up at stupid o’clock through the summer to get training in while it was still coolish.
