Are gloves just for wusses??

Back again after several weeks on IC (hurray) but suffered really cold fingers yesterday. Is it a good idea to wear gloves or will I hear sniggers from "proper runners"??

Any other tips for chilly morning runs?

No sniggers. I use cuffins on long sleeve tops, then when I get too warm I can peel them back.

If you do want gloves I was told that although there are fancy running ones $$ that the ones from the dollar store work just as well.

I have a running jacket, it’s like a light weight shell with vents under the arms that unzip if I get too warm. It stops the wind and usually that’s all I need. I wear if with a long sleeve top on windy days of about 0 celcius. If it’s not windy I just wear a tech tee and a tech long sleeve.

One general rule that I was told years ago was to dress as if it were about 10 degrees warmer. So today it was windchill of 1 degree, with only a light breeze, I wore a tech tee and a tech long sleeve with cuffins. I was cool for about 6 mins, then I got comfortably warm enough.

Running this time of year is great, the cooler temperatures are a relief after the sticky hot summer days.

You definitely need gloves or other hand covers. I have several pairs of varying thicknesses. You’ll find you probably only need them at the start and maybe the end of a run, the rest of the time they’ll be in your pocket or stuffed down your bra 😀. It can look odd when you’re in a short sleeved top, capris and gloves but what the heck. I’ve finished runs when my hands have been so cold and stiff It took ages to unlock the door because I forgot my gloves.

Ha ha. I also struggled unlocking the front door!

This forum is so great. You soon realise that someone somewhere has been through the same experience!

Looking forward to tomorrow morning.😆

I think you’ll only get laughs from any runners who’d rather get frostbite, but they’re unlikely to be able to point and laugh 😂

Get some gloves and something on your head and the rest of you should feel warmer, once you’ve got moving at least.

I use also a multiporpose headband. It can keep also neck and ears warm. It's cheap, small, you can take it in your pocket and use it when you need.

Just remembered I bought some of these and popped them in my running drawer ready for chillier times!

Ooh yes, a buff 👍 (that’s the expensive brand name) lots of other cheaper options. It’s just a stretchy tube of fabric with as many uses as your imagination. When it’s really cold starting with it over nose and mouth warms the air a bit before it gets to your chest - a boon for asthmatics.

Gloves are definitely fine - and who cares what anyone else thinks? :) Staying warm is more important. Yesterday I wore mitts at a race and I am happy to have done it.
