Some of you may recall last year’s BRAFTA awards searching for the best Sports Bra recommendation for lady runners. It occurred to me on a wet, foggy day that I failed to address non-bra wearing runners. Therefore this year in the interests of gender equality, I’ve turned my attention to your other undergarments. So we have the inaugural Knickers and Foundation Fitness Training Awards
The scoring method is fairly standard and the excel spreadsheet to rate your undergarments can be found here:-
I like granny style ones for long runs, running thong for short ones, and no knickers in the Summer ( shorts with a net- not Annette ) coupled with Bodyglide is a symbiotic combo. Flimsy lace, silk, playsuits and very nylon nylon are all no no's.
it was the thought of a mysterious lady called Annette receiving urgent requests from random runners asking her to perform undergarment duties that made me giggle most... A new version of the Beeb’s Bodyguard series perhaps?
Hahah hilarious 😂😂 I do think that for ladies, good fitting capris/leggings can make all the difference between a comfy grimace-free run and a John Wayne type sprint to the nearest jar of Vaseline 😩😩
After a few painful experiments I've at last got the leggings thing sorted and as I hate layers when running it's obviously zeros for me 😮😏😊
Great running Jan, you're doing brilliantly on the challenge.
Thanks IP, I must admit I can't run when I’m hot, it's not an easy thing to do, and today when no-one was around because of fog and rain I was wearing shorts but not commando obvs. And thanks for the encouragement on the challenge. Just over 2 months to go now...
I'm with IP! It's all about good fitting tights thereby allowing a commando run! That being said, as it gets colder, I have had to resort to finding the underwear I wore last winter under my tights. It is a sad time when they have to come out of the drawer 😢, as they have the last couple weeks, but the temperatures are rising again! Whoohoo! Going back commando!
The key is the tights. The first time I tried, my tights didn't have a gusset so there was a seam which was less than ideal. If your tights have a gusset, I say go for it! You'll become a commando convert 😂. It is especially nice when it is really hot to not have to have another layer.
Yeah but your winters are much colder than ours. My bum sometimes feels cold in the winter but I just rub them a bit and that seems to help but thermal undies would be too hot I imagine. But as you say, gussets in leggings are the way to go but only well made ones!
It has been 0 since beginning of the summer...last winter when I was a newbie runner I wouldn’t have dared go commando so it was M&S shorts style briefs all the way...now the nights are drawing in & it’s darker, I do think I am going to revert back to my M&S comfies, I would be mortified if I got knocked down & I was commando!!! Yikes...my street cred would be 0!!! Lol x
Great running progress & important pant debate, Jan! Sadly can't open the spreadsheet but would like to add that depending on season I'm either cheese wire or Bridget Jones 'Hello Mummy' Knicks! I agree on the gusset debate - very important but I do struggle to find a decent 'bun/bum hugger' for winter which isn't wedgie inducing. Any recommendations?
No nonewedge recommendations from me I’ve been cheesecutter through every season. But I think it is Oldfloss who recommended runderwear? Done know if they do fleece lined ones though - although I have fleece lined running tights which warm my bum
Light cotton knickers for me, short style. But as am slowly losing weight will need to buy some new ones. Tried a thong but some discomfort as the capris wedged me running. I tried decathlon knickers for the GSR, and they were a good fit. No chafing or irritation.
