As such there are certain things that define us. We eat and drink and what the old bod doesn't want it gets rid of, and that is what I want to mention here.
I'm sure that many have found that the up-and-down action of running can encourage things to want to happen. I could cite Paula Radcliffe, but I shan't!
How do others try and ameliorate the situation? You can't 'make yourself go' before a run if you simply don't need to, but getting the need to go during a run is tricky.
How delicately put! One way is to avoid the up and down motion I guess... there was something on the app commentary about if you were running behind a fence with just your head showing the observer wouldn’t be able to tell you were running.
Lots of roughage in the diet would be good to keep the regular emptying process. As an evening runner I tend to have already dealt with the issue before I head out.
The more drastic solution would be a colonic irrigation session I guess, but I never fancied that for some reason.
I've heard that one too! The trouble is that I 'bob-up-and-down' even when I'm walking. I always have, even when I was a country sprinter etc in my school days.
That would do it, sprinting is effectively flying, the less time with a foot on the ground the better and that means plenty of push off the ground. I have a little of that from 3k days and it’s the natural way to run now after years of training, however long ago they were.
Maybe we just need a hosepipe, a funnel and some tubing? 😱😱
I think it would be a good idea to monitor what you are eating - food diary - to see if you can determine any patterns to the types of food which maybe more likely to cause it, be it dairy or spicy foods, etc.
I beilieve have seen others on the forum state they take immodium before a race to counter this.
Wise counsel indeed. I suspect that it may be refined white bread, now I think about it. Brown/wholemeal etc are fine, as is pasta etc. But white bread seems to be a possibility. I shall check that theory out.
Most folks “go” within say an hour of eating, then it’s safe to head out running. Try eating the same pre run meal. Works for me 😃. In my case it’s always porridge with a flat teaspoon of peanut butter
I've only had this issue twice (thank God), both times when running in the morning, even though I've been to the toilet beforehand and haven't eaten anything. No problems if I run in the afternoon before having my dinner.
I rarely run in the mornings, so maybe my body was in shock on those occasions!
I have heard that it's natural for your body to want to expel all extra weight when you run, to enable you to go faster, as obviously you'd only run if you were in danger!
Mornings are not a problem for me. I love the early part of the day when it's all been washed fresh by the night. My body seems happy then too. I think I may have pin-pointed it - refined white bread, I don't eat that very often, and I don't normally have any issues, but they seem to tie-up when I think about it. Pasta etc is fine, as is brown bread.
