Just finished my first run, did anyone else nearly die? Am I really that unfit?

Welcome,

Yes! I’ll always remember that one... it tried to kill me 8 times! Yes, you’re that unfit, but you’re in great company, a lot of us were and a lot struggled with run one. Great job completing it. The key is to slow right down, and try and stay comfortable at a pace where you can talk in whole sentences.

So, great job and enjoy that next run.

1:1 is your baseline run, so don’t let it knock you. You’ll have learned that you’re not as fast or as fit yet as you used to be, because we all learn that ! Now you can start thinking with more focus about your goals and how best to reach them. You may need to go slow and do many repeats (like me !) or you may need to work on style or stretches or whatever. If you didn’t actually need an ambulance to get home then you’re fit enough to get on with the programme. Enjoy the journey x

I completed C25K a couple of years ago but stopped running and totally unfit right now. Did W1R1 this morning. Eight one minute runs, I was stumbling through it at times and my calves were tight and sore but I did it and I'm still alive. Planning to do the same again on Wednesday. I might repeat W1 again next week, will see how it goes. Even a small hill felt like a mountain LOL

You are in good company here, a lot of people myself included could not complete that first run the first time. W1 is the hardest by a long way. But don’t worry it gets better...we’ll no less challenging but it does get better. You’ll have your virtual cheerleading squad here. Keep us updated, the good, the bad and the ugly 😀 you’ve got this!

7 weeks ago I felt exactly like that, and my head was screaming “there is no way you can do this!”, “let’s face it, running is not for you”. Last night I ran for 25 minutes, relaxed and at ease. I forced myself to trust the program and follow the instructions no matter what. And it absolutely worked. The forum is a great help, full of encouragement and sound advice. Stick to it and you can do it!

Yes, I almost died too, Seems crazy that it was less than a year ago. It does get easier and eventually you will even look forward to going :)
