Yesterday, we had the eldest grandsprocket- he’s 3 (and a half) so we did a ‘training’ run ready for him doing the local MiniMoRun in Movember: {run for a minute, walk 30 seconds (or the next tree trunk!) } repeat 5 times. He actually got very distracted but we managed 3 repeats, so I’m counting that as a win 😍 especially as we got back to the car and into the shop before the rain started.
After the grey and rain of yesterday, today was a gloriously sunny day, so I dutifully headed off to the river to join a couple of other canicrossers for a run. They are both more experienced runners than I am, and faster as well, which is good for me I think, as I am not good at pushing myself when I’m on my own. Anyway off we went, at a brisk trot, pausing only for doggy comfort breaks and a brief regroup at the car park partway along the route. I say regroup, but actually if I hadn’t got tangled up after we’d met oncoming dogs, I would have been right behind them as I was having one of those days when it felt easy to be zipping along, and my biggest worry was putting my foot in a hole/tripping over (as Merlin and I are running in an event next week, and that is the sort of luck I have. 🤫)
The big bridge (and water trough) that the others were aiming for would have been a little bit too far for Merlin to run, so I opted to turn around at the 4K mark and run slowly back, allowing Taylor and Merlin to both have some free run time. A decision I almost regretted when Taylor fell into the river (she just didn’t put the brakes on quick enough while dashing around) and couldn’t get back out 😮 Luckily it was easy enough for me to grab her harness and hoik her out, and she was none the worse for the experience. Not to be outdone, about a kilometre farther on - after I’d put them back on their running lines to negotiate the car park - Merlin saw some swans and nearly took us *all* into the river 🤦♀️
A couple more slow paced and walking breaks followed when other dogs showed up heading towards us, and it was soon after one of those, that I realised my running buddies had caught up and were level with us on the river bank, opposite. At which point I sped up a little - not that I am competitive at all 🤫
Best of all? I felt perfectly fine when we finished 😀
