Just realised I am free tomorrow morning (usually riding) so thinking about donning my brave pants and doing w5r2 at the park run. Never taken part in one yet 😱😱😱

You won't need your brave pants, but you will need your athlete barcode.

Good luck! Extend your warm-up walk to 10 minutes to give all the other runners time to get out of the way. Then enjoy your two 8 minute runs.

The barcode has been waiting patiently in my car for some weeks now :)

thanks for the extended warm up tip. i also plan to start at the back so i don't get trampled by the graceful gazelles lol

I didn't attempt a park run till I graduated and was confident in running 5k. We each get something different from the experience, but some people can get disheartened by other runners wizzing past.

Hi Whatsapp appreciate the concern. I've chosen a PR in the next town over as my local one is full of gazelles but the one i may do tomorrow has lots of people who are less "gazelle like" judging by the finish times :) so unless none off them turn up tomorrow i wont be the only snail lol

Good. I didn't mean to appear negative. I hope you enjoy it, most people do. Its not normally the gazelles that people are disheartened to be overtaken by, its the people they expect to be faster than. On a recent 10k run I got overtaken by a lady in her 70's - on a hill (I'm a reasonably fit 40yo man). On my first HM I got overtaken by a runner dressed as big bird. Its all good fun. And it drives me to make sure I don't miss my weekday runs. It doesn't bother most, but some it does - hence my comment.

I'm planning to do the same this week as we're in Montreal and the chance to do a Canadian park run is too good to miss. The idea is to do my 8x2 and then walk the rest. Hubby is on his 7th, but I'm coming back from a sprained ankle and starting again.

Yes, start at the back, don't do what I did at one of my first Parkruns when I started at the front and nearly got trampled on by 1000 runners, could have been a cardboard cutout!πŸ˜‚

Don't be tempted to rush away at the start with the others, do your pace that you're comfy with, slow and steady, don't worry about runners rushing past you, it will probably happen, try and enjoy.. oh, and don't forget your Parkrun barcode😊
