Laundry. Asking for a friend.

So, I’ve just started jogging. My question is, how often should I wash my jogging gear? At the moment I think I’m planning - I mean, my friend is planning - on laundry once a week (other than socks and knickers which is every time). Is that the same as everyone else, or am I particularly slovenly?

I wash my leggings and t-shirt once a week, but they are bog standard ones. High tech running gear probably has more specific instructions. I suspect I’d wash them more often in hotter weather but it has been cool here for the last month. Hope that helps !

I make sure to hang everything to dry after running so it's not sitting sweaty and damp. Socks, and pants of course go in the laundry after one run. Cotton clothing also. Other stuff... I have lots of merino wool and bamboo stuff which claims to be quite smell resistant and I think it works as I don't smell much from it. I will admit I do a sniff test ... and I'll wear it for another run if it's alright. And then I wash according to the instructions and use vinegar in place of fabric conditioner. So far, no-one's complained...

I generally rinse out shorts and t-shirt in the shower after a sweaty run - I have several pairs so basically they all get a proper wash once per week. It is amazing how cheap some of this running stuff can be ( not so much shoes) so there really is no need to worry too much about this.

I’m not a massive sweater (although I do a good impersonation of a 🍅), so I tend to wash my leggings once a week and my tops after a couple of wears. Socks and undies every time (not always my sports bra though - note to self, I need a couple more ....) 😀

I think the technical fabric of sports gear nowadays is fabulous. Back in the day when my husband (then boyfriend) used to row and train, it was all cotton stuff. And oh my word, the stench! 😳 Now it drys out super quickly, although I can’t say I like the ‘fragrance’ in his kit bag much!

I just hope I don’t leave a waft of sweaty aroma when I run past people (which is a rare event in any case!) 😀🏃‍♀️

I was dreading reading this post in case I found out I was really gross, but I too wash my leggings once a week but everything else after each wash.

It depends whether your friend run in glorious isolation or in close proximity to others and also depends on the degree of glowing that he/she does when they run.

Depends how sweaty they get, sometimes every run, sometimes two runs before they get washed. But I always hang them to dry after a run, then when I wash them I too am a fan of a cap of white viniger in the rinse...... dont use fabric softener on wicking garnents as it clogs the fibres. Sorry that should read please tell your friend........😉

Washed every time I run but then apart from sports bras and running shoes I rarely wear specialist clothing so I can have plenty of it and it just goes in the normal wash when that happens (I don't get on well with techno fabrics, those really are smelly and sweaty and I am not an especially sweaty soul) I put my running stuff on first thing if it is a run day rather than getting changed for running so wouldn't like to be wearing something I'd run in and not washed.

I do the same as you ItstheMarchHare, I mean same as your friend... I wash once a week aside from socks and underwear. So far no issues with smell... and really, even if there is a bit of a smell, you're putting it on to make it smellier, so not sure it's a real problem.
