Do you get annoyed at those who litter your run?
I volunteer with a litter picking group called Rubbish Friends.
We did a pick this morning from Morrisons car park and teamed up with CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) who are trialling a machine that can read barcodes on items for recycling that uses that info to sort it. Brilliant!
Just for a quick straw poll - please reply if you think it would be a good idea to have Rubbish Runners clearing up litter?
You’ll be wanting a Plogging group (although I like “Rubbish Runners” 😁). It’s a Swedish thing apparently.
Fitbit were also promoting litter picking a month or so ago via Facebook but I think that’s finished now.

I think owners of car parks should be made to clean them up and fined heavily if they don’t.
In public areas though, yeah... do it.
Thanks UNM. Agreed. Not clear from the initial info but we actually picked from a nearby local park then brought our 'booty' back to a cordoned off part of Morrisons carpark for sorting rubbish from recycling.

I think owners of cars in the car parks should! Well, maybe. We have speeding cameras and such - can't we have littering cams?? I suppose people will rightly be concerned about being observed all the time but honestly if it was just to catch littering ... (can you tell I get upset about this) ..
I mean really, we need more bins and importantly less packaging to litter ...
I think if those cameras had silly filters on them people would be queuing up to be seen on them 😂
Of course the people littering need fining... reasonably lucky where I live in that respect but one park I used to run in has a big problem... and you have to question wether fines are enough for those leaving bottles in the middle of a park where kids play... I was forever moving them.
Every time I run through the park I think I ought to come back on a rest day equipped with gloves and a bin bag! Unfortunately a lot of it is cans and bottles, which does make me feel a bit wary, especially with darker nights coming up. I've also noticed that there are people camping in the park on and off, too, which is rather sad. But yes, I do find running makes me far more aware of my surroundings sometimes.
Apart from travellers and rough sleepers and fly tippers it's mostly OK to pick stuff.
But bottles do get heavy.
Even if you only collect plastic stuff, it's a start. 😸
yes, I get extremely annoyed, and yes it's a great idea and I like the name (I've heard of plogging but I don't think that word is clear in English, maybe better in Swedish!) ! I've been pondering all summer about littering and bins... I don't think it's easy to change people's behaviour but knowing other people care enough to set something up is heartening. I'm hoping to join goodgym who do litter picking runs sometimes.
I'm pretty sure I ran past someone who dropped litter just after I'd passed them, today.

I think I would like to be a "Rubbish Runner" one day - until then I will settle for not-very-good-sometimes-terrible plodder 😄🏃♀️
