Come hell or high water i will run....

I have completed c25k through the summer months and still struggle with the thought of going out running in the rain. Drizzle I can cope with, but a downpour.....nah! So last Sunday when I woke ready to go on a run I was disappointed to find it lashing it down. I couldn't bring myself to go out so went for a class at the gym instead. But missed my run ☹

Today I have been for a gym induction so at least through the winter if I feel I really can't go out I can go for a run on the dread mill instead. Nothing to get in my way now!

I did sneak in a cheeky 3.5k this morning after the induction, on what is supposed to be a rest day, I just couldn't help myself.

It takes a certain kind (misguided, perhaps?) of commitment to go running in lashing rain. If it starts to lash down mid run, that's another story. So you've missed a run? In the great scheme of things it shouldn't matter to you. There aren't any prizes for deliberately getting drenched. You'll more than make up for it with future runs.

All credit to you though, that you'll fit in the gym instead but ultimately, it shouldn't be because you feel "bad" at missing a run due to heavy rain. By the way, I love your typo above - dread mill!!! Or was that deliberate, haha. Take care :)

I see so many posts about people loving a run in the rain, but i am definitely more of a fair weather runner. But I do love my runs and the way i feel afterwards so was very disappointed not to be able to run on what was a running day, especially as I hadn't run for over a week as I was away on holiday.

Now I have no need for disappointment as the gym is just down the road so I can run there instead 😁😁😁

Dreadmill was not a typo! I much prefer a run in the great outdoors x

I agree with the bad feeling when you so want to run :( But as you (personally) don't like the rain, something has to give. Run in the rain and not feel bad or vice versa. Enjoy the dreadmill :)

DREAD mill has been used many times here on C25K to describe a threadmill.

Sensible planning Sandi 😊 of course this will now be the mildest winter on record 😁 I wish ..

So what you need is a sudden and unforecast downpour once you’re already out 😂

Good to see you back out there... enjoy your next one in the great outdoors, or on the dreadmill!

Not a lot I can do if it rains while I'm out, just accept it and run on I suppose.

My next run on Tuesday is my longer run, so I'm hoping for a dry day 6k plus on a dreadmill will be very dull

Hope you get the weather... if not you’ll get through it for sure

Good planning joining a gym Sandi. I need to do the same I suppose, as even though I don’t mind getting wet too much (I used to keep horses), I’d rather not be wet AND freezing cold in the depths of winter.

Hey, sneaking in a cheeky run on a rest day is rather naughty Sandi!! Don’t pick up an injury pleeease!

😀😀

I know I didn't plan to, I was just going for the induction, but I got a little carried away!

I will have a propper rest day tomorrow 😁

I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that I have started a run in heavy rain over the past five years.........what are weather forecasts for?

Flexibility in timetabling helps and while I can enjoy running in the rain I definitely get better enjoyment from a dry run............... I run for pleasure not some kind of perverse torture.

Wet is fine.........cold is fine........wet and cold means a delay

Yes, I know I am a wimp.

That's fine if you have the ability to be flexible in timetabling. My running days are fairly fixed unfortunately due to other comittments.

Not so sure I will enjoy runs in the gym, but a run in the gym is better than no run or a run in the cold and wet!

Well done! A drizzle is a drizzle but downpour? No. Good idea going to the gym. I so hate the treadmill indoors (feel like a hamster) that it never crosses my mind! But you're right.
