First post as didn't think I'd get this far, 49yr old smoker and haven't run since school. Running with my Daughter for motivation, she got through the big C so I can get through this. 4.8K in 33mins tonight, lungs burning but won't beat me.

Wow... that’s some huge pace for week 4... it’s ok to slow down to comfortable holding a conversation pace. Enjoy every run. Hope your daughter had fun too.

Got to admit my lungs were burning and the last 5min run was tough, only got 1 run in last week so point to prove to myself.

From what I’ve read you’re a loving father who wants to improve his health and be around longer to spend time with his daughter. What’s to prove? Complete this programme and then go prove whatever you need to... for now, just finish this plan.

I am sure you know this, but the biggest thing you can do to improve your health is to quit the fags. You are really quick, but just imagine if your lungs were set free...

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Don't push too hard...........as a new runner you will be susceptible to injury and you build stamina by running slowly.

Enjoy your journey.

Wow! Speedy you are indeed O_O

It's fine as long as you can still hold a conversation with your daughter. As many probably said to you, go slow and steady, you will work on speed after finishing the program ;)

But huge congratulations! And running with your daughter must be amazing feeling and good motivator. I think you figured out all the best solutions :)

Enjoy the running journey and your family time!
