No need for those requested nags … I did it!

Thanks to all who responded so kindly to my previous message. The weather forecast last night was giving us 50+ mph winds for anything after about 8am today, so I set the alarm, laid out the kit and was out the door by 7am. The sun was shining and the wind was howling, but fortunately no rain. As stated previously, we have just moved into a VERY hilly part of Wales (is all of Wales this hilly? not sure) so I knew there was going to be a lot of walking involved.

My new route starts off with a gentle downhill section, then a bit of gentle up and downing, then a mahoosive uphill which I don't think even mountain goats would try and run up, then a gentle long uphill then a lovely long downhill back to my house. The views were spectacular, I didn't see a single vehicle, I did see a lot of sheep and cows (scaredy cat bullocks who were fine when I was walking, but who ran away when I started running - did I make the ground shake so much they thought an earthquake was imminent?). The wind was wild, but didn't blow me over and I was actually assisted up a bit of the long slow hill by a tailwind.

Anyway, the upshot is I DID IT after months of relative inactivity, and now I ache like hell.

Thanks to all here who encouraged me. You guys are awesome!

The next challenge is to repeat this on Monday (next available opportunity, but it will probably take till then for the muscles to recover anyway!).

Well done. 👍👍👍

I was looking forward to having a good nag, but I'm pleased you got out there, in heroic conditions by the sound of it. ☔🌧🌪

You did it, so I think it's you who's awesome. Hopefully you'll be a lot less achy but the time the glow of success wears off. 😃

That's what I've been doing today MissW and I can't dig a hole because my soil is so hard. I have loads of plants to move and divide and it's soooo frustrating. A good workout though 💪💪💪

Well done! I think all of Wales is hilly. I used to live up in the valleys - not a flat bit of road to be seen for miles. But on the bright side, where there's an up there will also be a down 🙂

Hi Useit

Well done for getting out there into what sounds like a fantastic place for a bit of run/walking...so sorry to hear about your mum and dad and everything that goes with that.

I too have the hilly, up and down thing going on on my 'regular' 'runs', but know the total pleasure of the views, the peace and the coming back down bit! I haven't been on here for an age...I see my last post was four years ago and I remember that, at the time, we were both on the C25K journey...I am still at the run/walking lark, but my mileage is way down this last year or so due to needing to travel for family illness, and such, and then there was a summer of crazy workload and the OMG it's hot, I can't run in that!

BUT, I find that when I can get out, the old run/walk is a good friend that clears my head, helps me think (and chat to myself), gives me some me time and, when some tasks are not going the way they were planned, gives me a goal that is achievable, no matter what the pace....I am more walk than run!

Good luck for Monday - you can do it!
