Hi, On week 4 and really comfortable, loving it in fact! Do any of you run ‘toe first’. I find it easier and quicker but am not sure about shoes and gait and everything really. Any advice welcome :-)

Check this out... the section on gait and shoes especially!

And run... just run how it feels right for you!

I run on my toes. It’s harder on the calf muscles, but it is technically faster and I saw that the guy behind parkrun runs on his toes once a week. Building to sustain it for 5k may take a little longer than flat foot landing, we are basically adopting more of a sprint gait.

Technically, you don’t need gait analysis for shoes if you land on your toes, but I’m going to see a sports physio and get full body gait analysis and correct any gait issues higher up.

Nice to know it’s not just me 😂. I find it easier on my knees too. Physio is a good idea, might wait until I have graduated so I’m a little more certain of things.

Maybe. I was told by a running specialist that gait analysis wouldn’t be useful while I run like I do, it’s all about the back of the shoe which I barely use. I have to see my physio anyway, so full gait analysis won’t cost me much, if any extra.

Runners Need do gait analysis to sell running shoes... yet they sell running spikes without and advise to go for the ones that fit the best and feel comfortable, despite mentioning pronation and spike placement. The difference? Spikes are for running on the front foot. However, proponents of barefoot running say you should choose running shoes the same way... coincidence?

Nike admitted that, many years after they invented the first modern running shoe, there’s no scientific evidence that they prevent injuries. Also injury rates I saw in a British medical journal article stated that there had been no reduction in injury rate in the last 40 years.

Now as Nike and others have shown, removing years of development and cushioning to go minimalist doesn’t reduce the price in the slightest... so it’s not about money for them... but maybe for the specialist shops it is.

There’s one store in the UK that offers non treadmill gait analysis and they look higher up the body, like a physio... those guys I may believe as it makes more sense.

Sounds like a great plan...whatever works for you... I never had gait analysis and have been fine.. :)

But for our Newbies, ( My reply was to Moirrey :), we offer the linked post from IannodaTruffe and the Admin team... as a precaution and support ...:)

I understand, and I was passing my experience on that, for those running in their toes, “gait analysis” isn’t needed.

It is debatable if anybody does... still to see anybody medical without financial gain for it that does promote it, and I’ve been looking and looking

I know there are folk who do need it...often for very complicated issues... but that is a whole other discussion :)

The link here is very useful.. and offers folk the support and the choice... which we in Admin have an obligation to try to do :)

Yes indeed... and I’d promote the pseudoscience to anyone who ran the regular way... it may help. I get that.
