Post Graduation

alexthenovicerunner profile image

I graduated a few weeks ago and have been doing regular 5k runs 2-3 times a week.. at a reasonable pace of 6.5 min/k - which for me is pushing it..

I decided this morning to slow things down to about 7.5-8 min/k and only went and ran 12k!

Felt really good!

The longest prior to that was 10k and was murder.. that was before I did C25k.,

Anyone else had this happen?

Just goes to show.. regular, disciplined running pays off..

Those struggling or just starting out.. keep at it!

Remember “anyone who runs, no matter how slowly is lapping all those still on the couch”

You have discovered that slow running is valuable and builds stamina.

75-80% of your running should be slow.

Yes I have and thank you

I am currently do my long slow runs about 7 min 30/km which is a easy pace for me long run this Friday will be around 14K..

Running slow is just as hard as running fast ..but very beneficial as IannodaTruffe said.. it's a long way from w1 r1 where a minute felt like a life time

I wonder why we feel that going fast is so important. I would like to ignore stats (but can’t) as it can make you feel disappointed in an enjoyable run. Speed is very subjective too but personally I find 7.5-8 min/k is a nice longer distance amble, 7-7.5 min/k is comfortable and any faster is (occasional) hard work! I actually don’t understand how someone can do 5k in sub-20mins (as I saw in a park run list). And I’m not sure why they want to, unless they’re pro athletes.

I’m far too lazy to work my butt off on a regular basis- this is meant to be fun!
