Can’t believe I struggled to run for a minute! How unfit am I! However I am determined to persevere and hope I can get to the end. I am 57 and new to running so is this achievable? Would be glad of any encouragement. Thanks

Of course it's achievable Redjogger and you have to believe that you can persevere and achieve your goal in all the 9 weeks of C25K, you can take longer if you wish by repeating some runs if feel you want to, good luck 🤞

I will do that! Thanks for replying!

Well done . In no time at all you'll be a runner. In April I started like you. Really unfit. I'm now on 9 k. Making my way up to 10 k .

Keep up the good work. You'll love it.

Welcome,

We all struggled with run one. There’s been older than you by over 20 years that have done this. Yes you can do it. You’ve got out there and taken on run one, you survived and you succeeded... great start!

Thanks so much. Feeling very motivated and will push on!

Welcomeand congratulations on starting c25k 👏👏👏

Don't worry about being unfit, most of us were there when we started! You will be surprised at how quickly your endurance increases. Trust in the program and believe in yourself.

One last thing, go SLOW, like a 🐌 😊 this is about building endurance not speed. You should be able to chat and run/jog if you can't you are going too fast. And yes your jog may well be slower than your walking speed!

Ok one more last thing 🤣 read the faqs and tips (It's a pinned post I think)

Enjoy x

Yep there was def not much difference between my walk and run 😂 I really want to do this so thanks for your encouragement 😊

Week one was a real shocker for me too. I was 61 and about 18 post heart op (to replace faulty valve) at the time. I stuck with the programme and graduated last month. I was amazed how C25K builds you up so quickly. Stick with it. The lovely people on this forum will help you through the tough times and celebrate the good times with you.

You can do this!!

Good luck and happy running

Wow well done you. I have a health condition but like you I know it’s important to get fit! Thanks for replying it has inspired me!

Please keep us posted on your progress. It’ll help others along their journey.

All sorts of bods here, tall and small, young and old, fat and thin, fit and unfit, and thousands of us have managed to complete this programme. Indeed it seems ideally suited for the middle aged, never run before types (like me). So yes you can absolutely do this :)

Have you read the guide to the programme, in the pinned posts section?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I was 57 when I started C25K and it will always be one of the best things I have done for myself in my entire life.

Enjoy your journey.

I felt the same on my first run. The first run of a new week is always hard but it’s worth it to see how far you come by the 3rd run of the week. I’m only on my 3rd week now and just complete my second run today. It’s amazing how far we come run to run and week to week. Just remember you are not alone in feeling this way and that many people who have been in the same position as us have now graduated not matter what age or fitness level they started at. Just keep taking it one run at a time and you’ll be fine. Good luck.

It does it even shocks me sometimes. I tried doing this years ago but could get into it now although i’m only on week 3 i’m So glad I tried again it 100% worth the effort. I can’t wait to graduate 👩🏻‍🎓

Believe and you will achieve. The plan definitely works. Take one run 🏃‍♀️ at a time. This forum will give you lots of help support and encouragement. Well done 👍

I was exactly the same on the first run. The plan works though- I just did W9R1. You CAN do it- trust us!

I thought I was reasonably fit until I started C25K! Despite regular hiking and gym classes I really struggled. I have now just finished week 7 and cannot believe how far I have come since that first run. Keep going and you will definitely get there!

Of course you will succeed

Just a bit of self belief and determination

There are thousands of us who have completed this program and I bet most doubted they would at the start.

Happy running.

You will do it believe in yourself. I struggled through each week and even now on week 8 I amaze myself that I can actually do this. Believe in you and stick to the programme - you too will be amazed , good luck 😉

Well done on starting. I am 56, never run before this, and (at least) two stone overweight! Had just been told I was technically into the Obese category on the chart.

Week one! OMG, thought I was going to expire, out there on the nature reserve, with no one around to even notice!

The rest is history, as they say! It is hard, every week I panicked about what was coming up, but I did it, 1000s before us have done it and so will you!

Go slow and get proper running shoes by week four if you think this is for you.

Woohoo!! Congrats on completing day 1! I completed my day 1 today and was shocked at how difficult I found the second half. I used to run a lot a few years ago before settling down and having a baby.. so struggling with this has definitely been a wake up call!

I guess the important thing is that we’ve found c25k and we are giving it a go and getting back on our feet :D

Yes let’s keep going. Tomorrow is run 2 and my legs ache still from yesterday 😂 let me know how you are getting on!

You can do it! Just be patient and go at the pace your body wants you to, don't push it too much, just the right amount an you'll get there, no matter how long it takes :)
