You can choose to get email notifications when someone you follow posts. This is what I do, otherwise I'd be checking up on everyone!

A note about this though - if you are followed by someone, every post they make sends a notification, even when it's on a totally different forum - even when it's locked, I think (you might not get to see the whole post but you can see that they did post). HealthUnlocked's privacy settings leave a lot to be desired, imho.
