All good intentions of running yesterday..... Derailed by a kakky night shift, coupled with the magnetic forces of a warm bed grrrrrrr...

Not so today Ian oh no.

After dispatching the oversleeping daughters, it's wake up time... The standard breakfast of champions and a coffee, Dip a toe outside yep, weather check confirms, it's only requiring shorts and teeshirt, slight (miniscule) faffing, on trainers selection, the trail happy cascadia nearly got the vote, but nooooooooo I thought build up slow n steady, keep it flat today on the towpath, brooks ghosts in place, stretches done... Run time.

Walking until the canal side, it's easy pace running, no off like a rocket, it's pretty quiet on the run towards the aqueduct, and there's one other runner I see offer on the other side, so we meet as she goes underneath the structure and on to myside. So after a tiny chinwag her physio has said she can run slowly (knee cartilage issues) we decide to run together, her hubby is further down the towpath Infront of us.

The bonus of naked running πŸ™ˆ, conversation! No tunes no tech just running chit chat, Strava stuff, husband's new shoes and it's nice to chat and run. Conversational pace I noted was about 6.30 per klm and comfortable πŸ‘. No sooner than she'd slowed for a walking break, I continued her hubby has turned and is a little behind me until I leave the towpath.

A last roadside 2klms makes for a refreshing 5k, at a nice moderate pace..... Freshened up and energised for the pending nightshift.....

Enjoy those runs be they long, short fast or slow, keep safe people

How nice! I rarely get other runners giving me a nod, let alone a chat!

in reply to Roxdog

Oh I've a few of the head down barely a grunt runners, i make a point of issuing a cheery greeting, then if still no acknowledgement I'll silently berate them 🀣

Ditto! I had one of those on Sunday. Later I had an encounter where we both said "Good morning" at the same time.

Ahhh yours was a bit of a write off 😬, I'm hopefully looking at an evening run across the weekend if all goes to plan πŸ‘πŸ€ž

As you mention a write off , I assume this reply is to me 🀣

in reply to Instructor57

Unless you'd like to buy it back from the insurance company (who specialise) in all written off runs πŸ€–

Nice run for you, with a bit of chitter chatter! Do you have breakfast before you run?

in reply to Jools2020

Ohhhhhh hello Julia, yep food is a definite before a run, and subsequent small room visitation needs, I've once tried a fasting run, jeesh I was starving πŸ˜‚

Interesting. If it's a first thing in the morning 5-10km, I won't usually eat until afterwards.

On the other hand, for 90 minutes or more, I always have something beforehand, even if it's only a mug of coffee and a slice of toast.

in reply to nowster

Permanent Nightshift plays havoc with one's eating habits and my natural alarm clock in is a stomach rumble, indicating.....I need food, before anything...

I've worked overnight, but never a permanent night shift. That would really muck things up for me.

I think I’m with nowster here - but I guess shift work changes everything! For runs over 90 minutes I have a half portion of porridge and wait about an hour before I run, taking some tailwind with me. If I eat before a 5K run I get stitch.

I, unfortunately, do often hit the snooze button, more so as the days draw in at this time of year. Hence all the lunchtime runs I end up doing.

The only time I've held a proper conversation (more than a few seconds) with someone during a run was during the 10km race last month. Both of us were pacing off the other subconsciously, and we were definitely exceeding our "conversational pace" a bit.

I'll usually chat as I pass the marshals at parkrun, but they're not moving and the exchange is brief.

Round here a man like myself attempting to run alongside a solo lady runner might make her very uncomfortable. Not that that situation has arisen so far. They hunt in packs round here, I tell you!

Tis is tiny village so most people know each other, with the exception of the hoards that visit the aqueduct, but that said most of them aren't running

One hopes none of them fall off. It's a blooming long drop!
