I knew Iโd jinx myself, posting a reply to someone yesterday saying how my dicky ankle had healed itself without me having to visit the IC.
Today I did a lower body strengthening exercise on my favourite YouTube yoga channel. Totally within my capability and I was right in the swing of things when I moved my bent leg out sideways from downward dog as instructed, and up into a lunge, and I thwacked my toes hard on the solid arm of an armchair. Lots of swearing ensued, and now the base of my 4th toe on my left foot is very sore and the 3rd toe is black. Tender to walk on too, but I can move them all and thereโs no swelling. Hopefully not broken. ๐ค
I iced my foot, had a hot bath, then tried to walk my dog, but it was very sore. I took ibuprofen when I got home, but Iโm thinking my run tomorrow is off. โน๏ธ Boo. Iโll spare you the photo I took!
Any toe tips?

Oh, a word that rhymes with rugger springs to mind ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฌ๐ญ
In my completely non expert opinion it doesn't sound like it's broken. I'd keep on with the ice and maybe some ibuprofen gel. See how things are tomorrow and if you're well enough, smash up the armchair.
Best wishes for a speedy return to the running ๐
Oh yes, it took my breath away Rob. My first thought was my running being interrupted though! Not if I could get downstairs or to the supermarket or anything! ๐
Upper body work tomorrow, the run can wait. Not worth risking making any damage worse... hopefully itโll, as my dad bizarrely says, โbe a pigโs foot in the morningโ
Oh noes! Not good, but I gotta say... FIGHT THROUGH THE PAIN, SERGEANT!
It's never good getting an injury that's NOT from running that stops us from running lol! Hopefully you'll heal quick and then bizarrely pick the biggest hill you can find and conquered it with panache!
I know Jundal - if it was caused by a power sprint at the end of my quickest 5k yet, it would have been justified! But no, it was yoga to help me achieve that! Thanks for nothing! ๐ฉ๐
But Iโll be back out there pronto. Iโm already not enjoying the IC!
I think that was me who jinxed you. Apologies. I do hope you are back up and running soon. In the meantime.... cursing and crying are available options.
Ouch... when the pain has gone..and you can bear weight and walk okay... buddy it up with tape to the next toe... I have broken my little toe oodles of times...last time on a sun-chair leg ..in France and no I had not been drinking wine... it loves the toe next to it now
Oh wow, I was transported there, and ran every step with you! It sounded amazing, and I could even smell the fresh baguettes!
Yowch with the toe though. But encouraging for me that you were able to continue running with it taped. Think itโs something Iโll definitely try on Sunday or Monday. Thank you! ๐๐
Thank you Fab. ๐ Iโm hopeful it will too. Iโll forego tomorrowโs run and Iโm marshalling at my local parkrun on Saturday (would have been running but Iโll be out late tomorrow evening). Hoping thatโll do the trick, along with Oldflossโs buddy toes idea! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ป
Sorry to read about your toe I know you were so looking forward to your 5Kโs but as oldfloss says once the pain is ok strap it up and youโll be back out on the road again. Hope it stops hurting soon and your back out pounding the streets in the beautiful cooler autum. ๐
Thanks Runsome. Just annoyed how it happened, not even running. Iโm hopeful to get back out on Sunday or Monday. Iโm pretty certain itโs not broken, just bruised. ๐ค
Thank you cheeky chipmunks. I hope you are back up & running soon. I fell down three steps a week ago & have damaged the sole of my right foot & bum. So sore! Thought it was all getting better until yesterday & back to hobbling. I really understand your frustration in not being able to run. It was my first thought too. ๐ค
Oh no... yes you need to give it a few days. Also try and put it up on a pillow when possible
Rest will help it get strong again.
I'm glad you cursed it away- definitely therapeutic. For the mind anyway!!!
And don't worry about missed runs. There is no deadline-oriented target. Could be you need an unscheduled breather, a tiny rest? Take it as a positive hiccup. You'll be so driven by the time you can go out again!!!
Thanks Mayanow. Itโs not too bad now, although still a bit tender. Iโm going to go for a very light jog tomorrow - no distance/time/stats - and see how it fares. ๐โโ๏ธ๐
