Another 5k race under my belt.

Still running at funeral pace but got round in just over 35 mins. As I went round I pondered:

1. Why do they call these ‘Fun Runs’. I saw nothing funny and the two hills gave me a sense of humour by-pass.

2. Why do they have water stations that give you cups of water. I can’t drink from a cup when on the move. Ended up wearing it.

I wish they’d warn me when there is a photographer about. I’d remember to suck my stomach in. Maybe even wave my arms about - see point 1.

Quite an amusing post from you Teresa, to begin with 35 minutes is NOT funeral pace, that is running, I have never seen any paulbearer running with a coffin over their heads (well you might at the London Marathon-the coffin would be empty) Fun running is called that because it's supposed to be fun running as it is for everyone here on C25K

A power walker overtook me and faded away into the distance 🤣. I came in 2/3 of the way down the field. Though 1st in the o/60 group (by virtue of being the only runner over 60, but that’s detail lol

I agree with AlMorr - not a funeral pace at all (in fact almost the same as mine!!! 😂). I’ve also come in first (and second) in my age group. And for the same reason!!!! All I can say is well done us! 🥇

It’s great being in an elite group! 🤣🤣

Well if you’re funeral pace Teresa, I’m the body. You were faster than my parkrun pace by 6 minutes! I’d say you were going a splendid speed! Well done! 👏👏👏👏👏

Thank you! Last month I ran the first 5k in 38.50. I think I panic and tense up too much. Need to stay calm and remind myself that I CAN get round.

Well done. Not sure on question 1, I think it’s their sadistic sense of humour. 2 is self answering, you ended up wearing it... we don’t need a whole cup of water every 5k, and humidity may be up... throwing it over you would probably be better than drinking it, especially in a 5k if properly hydrated at the start line.

My nose gets bunged up and so I have to breathe through my mouth...it dries out.

Is there a remedy. Thought of a polo mint or chewing gum, but not sure?

Not sure I’d want either while running. Maybe worth trying... or something like a locket?

That could work too. Also the snot when my nose decides to ‘unbung’ 🤣 I get through three tissues on every run. 🤣🤣

Well done on completing the fun run. I’ve entered one in a moment of madness. Should have waited but I’m being positive about it. No fancy dress just standard attire for me- I look funny enough anyway. Did you dress up?

It was all I could do to stay in normal running gear, wrinkly bits an’ all. Good luck and enjoy your run... relax! I panicked and tensed too much I think.

Thanks for the very useful advice. I’m thinking about it a lot more, as it draws nearer. I’m worried about being in a large group of people and I’ve never done this before. 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

Just get into the middle of the pack at the start line. Don’t panic or worry about the pace everyone is at; just start slow at your pace. 1k in and you’ll find your pace. Plus, you’ll be picking off all the ones that started out too fast. (That feels good, and you can gloat as you cruise past 😊)
