Yoga?

Hi all!

I’ve been thinking I would like to maybe try yoga sometime and wonder what benefits it would give me with running/ recovery.

I worry as a 29 y old bloke it’s a bit embarrassing though.

I think If I put yoga pants on everyone would run a mile!!! 😂 might be helpful?! 😂

I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts and experiences.

Thanks all.

Ahaha you're funny dave!

Listen you dont have to put on yoga pants!! Tracksuit bottoms are comfy and right.

I've done lots of ashtanga yoga (power yoga not the meditating passive one!) over the years and it is the best exercise ever. You really feel the stretching as it improves session to session. And the endorphins being released.

In my yoga classes there were always blokes there.

And it really counterbalances the strain of running. Dare it!!

Haha I do try to make everyone laugh out loud, it helps the world go round!

I guess I might try it at home first before I dare brave a class. 😁

Hi Daveb

I've recently been having a go at yoga in the hope that it will stretch and strengthen my muscles ECT, I'm hoping it will also give me a stronger core as I'm sure I slump when I run which can't be good! I'm following a 28 day beginners yoga app called doyouyoga which seems quite good, means you can do it at home so nobody need see you in your yoga pants!!

I really enjoy it and it's a good rest day exercise, go out and get yourself a yoga mat and give it a go!

X

Every yoga class I’ve ever been to has been mixed, mixed age groups, mixed gender. Yoga is great! Go for it!

Thank you for the help and advice. I will have to look for that app and give it a go!! I’m hoping the stop the aching in my knees and generally be less like an old man!! 😂

When I had my gait analysis done he did say I tended to land on my heel which would explain the ache. I guess muscle build up will help and I do try to land more on my midsole. It’s easier said than done sometimes though!

Loads of us do it as part of our strength and stamina exercise on rest days...do it at home if you wish..Loads of YouTube Yoga vids out there especially for runners..Yoga with Adrienne for example.

Our rest day exercise pays dividends as the runs get longer..go for it..!

As for the yoga pants??? Joggers..loose training trousers....something that is comfy..Loads to choose from..all prices.

Sounds pretty exciting. I will have to check YouTube out and see what there is.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

You can do yoga at home I do. Yoga is a perfect thing to do to help with everything, not just running. Don’t let cliches about yoga get in the way of your doing it. Some very simple moves are just amazing I paid a fiver for Tamal Dodge dvd and it’s the best dosh I ever spent. My husband got me the follow up for my birthday. Great for backs! 💪👍😃.

My husband won’t do it because he is afraid he can’t, but he wont try, but blames having to wear sweat pants. 🤷‍♀️ Men! ☹️ You can wear goddamn y-fronts if you want to 😁

😂😂love the y-fronts!! LOL!!

To be fair I probably agree with your husband. I doubt I’d be able to do it. I hear nothing but good things about it thought.

Yes to yoga. I started a few years back to ease my back pain. It is brilliant for easing a variety of aches and pains and definitely compliments running. As OldFloss said, YouTube is a great resource and I have recently tried some of yoga with Adrienne videos. Worth a go! It may take you a while to get into it, but the benefits are brilliant.

I did try one of her videos this afternoon actually!! The specific one for runner. I realise I’m as flexible as a slab of granite! But it was fun and quite different for me.
